Wrap
in Vigor - Natural Affinity - Magus of the Disk. |
Want
to destroy all of your opponent's permanents including lands and keep your
own? Here's the trick. With Magus of the Disk in play and
untapped, play Natural Affinity - turning all lands into 2/2 creatures.
Now Play Wrap in Vigor. All your creatures (and lands) now have a
regeneration shield set up. Once that's done, activate the Magus to
destroy all artifacts, creatures and enchantments. You will keep all
of your creatures and lands thanks to the regeneration shield. If
you had any enchantments or artifacts in play you'll lose those, but
that's not so bad. Your opponent now has nothing!

Aven
Mindcensor - Weird Harvest or New Frontiers |
The
beauty of Aven Mindcensor is it's ability to reverse the symmetrical
effects of other cards. Good examples of this are cards like Weird
Harvest and New Frontiers (both featured in the deck link to the left).
While you get to search your entire library for lands or creatures, you
opponent only gets to search the top four cards. So even if you set
X to ten, your opponent gets up to four and you get your ten. Sounds
enjoyably unfair to me. |
 |
Grinning
Ignus - Centaur Omenreader - Skyshroud Elf |
 Infinite
Mana! With all three creatures in play and the Omenreader tapped,
return Grinning Ignus to your hand by paying R. Add 2R to your mana
pool (2R). Thanks to Centaur Omenreader recasting Grinning Ignus
will only cost R. Turn one of the two colorless mana in your mana
pool to R with Skyshroud Elf(1RR). Play Ignus for R(1R).
Return Ignus to your hand for R and add 2R to your mana pool (3R).
Keep bouncing and replaying the Ignus to reach an
arbitrarily large amount of mana. You can use the Elf to turn that
mana into white or red mana or just leave it colorless for a really big
Shifting Wall...
Partially Submitted by
Kloschar.
Note: You can use the Elf and Locket of
Yesterdays with one Ignus in your graveyard for an infinite storm count.
Grapeshot anyone? |
 |
Barren
Glory - Claws of Gix - Peace of Mind |
So
The Cheese Stands Alone makes it into a tournament legal set, this time
with a different name but the same casting cost and almost the same rules text.
(Barren Glory only triggers during your upkeep).
While there are many different ways to rid yourself of cards in hand and
permanents, Claws of Gix and Peace of Mind are two excellent choices.
That and I have a deck in the database using them (along with a few other
cards). You could also use cards like One with Nothing, Renounce,
and Decree of Annihilation to name a few. |
 |
Nacatl
War-Pride - Smogsteed Rider and/or Doubling Season... |
Nacatl
War-Pride is a combo-licious card. Mind you, it's dependent on your
opponent having lots of creatures to be really good, but there are cards
that give your opponent more creatures to facilitate the Cat Warriors.
Captain Jack Sparrow recommends Doubling Season, which will provide two
3/3 cat tokens for each creature your opponent controls. That makes
one set of tokens unblockable (since they must be blocked by exactly one
creature if able). Inst recommends adding Smogsteed Rider to the mix
so all of your creatures, assuming your opponent isn't playing black and
artifact creatures, are unblockable.Of
course, then there's Primal Forcemage, Pandemonium, Altar of Dementia...
the list goes on. Maybe I'll write an article on this guy. *grin* |
 |
Saltskitter
- Aura Shards |
Have
your opponents' artifacts and enchantments been giving you a headache?
Try the card pair to ease the pain. Whenever Saltskitter returns to
play Aura Shard's ability will activate and you'll have the option to
destroy an artifact or enchantment. For the most fun when playing
this pair, try adding a Mycosynth Lattice to really frustrate an opponent.

 |
Gibbering
Descent - Sulfuric Vortex |
The
best part of Gibbering Descent is that it can be an Eon Hub. More
specifically, an Eon Hub for just yourself. While there are MANY
cards you can combo Gibbering Descent with, one route to go is with red.
While not further the pain for your opponent(s) and use cards like
Sulfuric Vortex that further damage them and also prevent them from
gaining any life. Meanwhile, as long as you are Hellbent during your
upkeeps, you aren't feeling any pain from either card! |
 |
Seht's
Tiger - Momentary Blink |
The
first time your play Seht's Tiger, it's most likely going to be against an
opponent's Demonfire. That's right, Seht's Tiger can nullify the
effects of Demonfire by giving yourself protection from red!
However, when the next Demonfire comes around, you might be helpless.
That is, of course, you have a Momentary Blink in hand. By bringing
Seht's Tiger back into play, you can give yourself protection from a color
all over again! This is useful again more than just Demonfire... |
 |
Oriss,
Samite Guardian - Genesis |
One
of the best parts of Future Sight, for me, is the Grandeur ability on five
Legends in the set. It's great because you no longer have to fear
about putting four of the same Legend in the deck -- because each
additional copy will net you a mediocre to amazing ability. In
Oriss's case, each Oriss beyond the first in play turns into an Orim's
Chant. With Genesis, each Oriss in your graveyard turns into another
possible Orim's Chant for 2G. Recursion baby! Gotta love
recursion... |
 |
Pact
of the Titan - Djinn llluminatus |
 Pact
of the Titan screams "Copy me!" With Djinn Illuminatus you can do
that. While you can't copy cards like Ancestral Vision because they
don't have a mana cost, you can copy cards like Pact of the Titan.
You see, they do have a mana cost. It's zero, but it's still printed
on the card. So, copy a bunch of Pacts of the Titan until you run
out of counters. I would recommend finding some haste granters so
you can win that turn and not have to pay 4R times infinite during your
next upkeep!Deck: Clash of the Titans |
 |
Magus
of the Moat - Gravity Sphere - Levitation |
Magus
of the Moat is great if your opponents' are playing creatures without
wings. Something like a Goblin Deck, right? When was the last
time a competitive goblin deck had a flyer? Anyway, you have to be
prepared for those flyers should they ever pop up on the other side of the
board. Gravity Sphere is a fine way of making those flyers harmless.
With both Magus and Sphere, your opponent's won't be able to attack you.
If you still want to attack, just play Levitation after you cast
the Sphere. This way the time stamp will be in your favor and your
creatures will still have flying while your opponent's creatures will be
left wingless. Submitted by YWN. |
 |
Gibbering
Descent - Braids, Cabal Minion or Razormane Masticore |
I
try to avoid having the same card in two different sections of the same
combo page, but Gibbering Descent has so many possibilities with it's
"Skip your upkeep step if you have no cards in hand" text. Other
cards that are especially detrimental to your opponent while you are
Hellbent include cards like Braids, Cabal Minion and Razormane Masticore.
Just remember to be empty-handed during each of your upkeeps else you'll
be discarding cards and sacrificing permanents too! |
|
Linessa,
Zephyr Mage - Pack Hunt |
The
Grandeur ability on some of the Legends in Future Sight are more potent if
you have four of them in hand. Cast one and then discard the other
three to the legend's effect. One way to get the other three in hand
is Pack Hunt from the Masques Block. With Linessa, discard three of
herself to her ability in the same turn might be like a one-sided Upheaval
for your opponent! |
 |
Dryad
Arbor - Darksteel Garrison |
Darksteel
Citadel was a great card -- it was an indestructible land. When
enchanted with a land animator, or animated by other means, you had an
indestructible creature. In Dryad Arbor's case, you already have a
manland the minute it comes into play. Fortifying it with Darksteel
Garrison will not only make it an indestructible creature, but whenever it
attacks it can give itself +1/+1 thanks to the other ability of Darksteel
Garrison. The only unfortunate thing -- Darksteel Garrison isn't
indestructible...Note: This concept works
with other manlands as well. |
 |
Pact
of Negation - Angel's Grace |
Pact
of Negation is a great counter, almost in the same league as Force of
Will. However, not paying the 3UU during your next upkeep can be
tough. Unless, of course you have Angel's Grace at
your disposal. Which would you rather pay, 3UU or W?
Note: Angel's Grace will work with all of the Pacts.
Deck: Clash of the Titans |
 |
Bitter
Ordeal - Boom//Bust |
Bitter
Ordeal is a mediocre card if cast in a turn when not much happened.
However, light some fireworks and Bitter Ordeal because a mean three mana
card-'pulling from your opponent's library' machine! Lands, creatures,
enchantments, whatever - you get to copy Bitter Ordeal for each permanent
put into a graveyard this turn. Boom//Bust has the right idea with
destroying all lands. When it comes time to play Boom//Bust and
follow it up with Bitter Ordeal, you could be yanking 20 cards from your
opponent's library! |
 |
Veilstone
Amulet - Whitemane Lion. |
Veilstone
Amulet is a great card make a Privileged Position-esque ability available
to any color. So long as you have a spell to cast, you can negate
effects from your opponent's targeting your creatures. But that's
the tricky part -- having a spell to cast at any time throughout the game.
Whitemane Lion can help. For 1W, you can play Whitemane Lion and
then bounce it back to your hand using it's own ability. It's like
a Plaxmanta every turn! Submitted by YWN. |
 |
Nihilith
- Damnation |
Nihilith
is a card that wants to be suspended. Six mana for an evasive 4/4 is
a lot of mana. However, two mana for an evasive creature and seven
turns is a long time at a good price. Luckily, he has this little
ability to remove time counters from himself whenever a card is put into
an opponent's graveyard from anywhere! That means Millstone and
other Mill type effect will speed Nihilith into play. Of course, you
could always just Damnation the board. Casting this mid game could
ensure two things: the board will be empty and Nihilith will come
into play after Damnation has already resolved! Ouch. |
 |
Magus
of the Abyss - Ashnod's Transmogrant |
The
unfortunate truth behind the Magus of the Abyss is that he will eventually
destroy himself. That is, unless you make him an artifact.
There are many bulky ways to make a creature an artifact. I'd prefer
a more elegant approach. Well, it's not as elegant as it is cheap.
Try Ashnod's Transmogrant from Antiquities. It will make the Magus
an artifact and give him a +1/+1 counter. This way, Magus can never
destroy himself. |
 |
Jhoira
of the Ghitu - Obliterate |
While
this isn't really a combo, it is some mighty synergy. Jhoira can
turn any card in a two mana spell if you don't mind waiting four turns.
And thus, if you suspend Obliterate, between the turns it is suspended and
actually played you can use Jhoira to suspend a few more cards in the
process. This way, after Obliterate destroys the world, each turn
after that you'll get a few more spells coming out of suspension.
Mix this with some indestructible or Obliterate-evasive creatures and
suddenly you have a deck. Oh wait -- I have a deck, check it out! |
 |
Bridge
from Below - Enduring Renewal - Fallen Angel - Ornithopter |
 Infinite
creatures -- and here is how it works: With Bridge in your
graveyard, an Enduring Renewal, Angel and Thopter in play, sacrifice the
Ornithopter to Fallen Angel (giving the angel +1/+1). Because of
Bridge from Below, you also get a 2/2 creature thanks to Ornithopter going
to the graveyard. Because of Enduring Renewal, the Thopter will go
back to your hand at which point you can play it again and repeat the
above. This will give you an arbitrarily large Angel and a horde of
2/2 Zombie token creatures. If your Angel can't kill your opponent,
your horde of Zombie tokens will next turn. Beware Damnation. |
 |
Phosphorescent
Feast - Ageless Entity |
Ageless
Entity and Phosphorescent Feast work well together. With Entity in
hand and in play, casting Feast will gain your four life and give the
Entity in play four +1/+1 counters. However, I doubt you'll be
playing Feast with just one card in hand. If you build your deck
right, you could be gaining 40 life from just one resolve of Feast.
And you know what that would mean for the Entity -- 40 +1/+1 counters.
Trample anyone? |
 |
Muraganda
Petroglyphs - Thelonite Hermit |
Thelonite
Hermit isn't a bad card. When turned face up he would normally give
you four 2/2 Saproling creature tokens. However, with Muraganda
Petroglyphs in play, suddenly your five mana invested yields some
fascinating dividends: four 4/4 Saproling tokens! Doubling Season sounds
good about right now. |
 |
Witch's
Mist - Ophidian or Timmy |
These
two cards together will give an opponent a tough decision. If they
block Ophidian, you can activate Witch's Mist and destroy the blocking
creature. If they don't block Ophidian, you might draw a card.
Obviously, there are more creatures with effects upon dealing damage to an
opponent -- or you could just use good 'ol Timmy (and relatives) to
activate the Mist. Either way, a tapping enchantment is one you
should explore a little further or just have fun with it and Ophidian. |
 |
Force
of Savagery - Pandemonium |
Some
of you may think to include a playset of Gaea's Anthem in your deck along
side Force of Savagery. There are others that would think more
deviously. Pandemonium turns Force of Savagery into a three mana
costing eight point fireball at one target. True, due to state-based
effects, Force of Savagery will die immediately upon coming into play, but
who cares! You just dealt eight damage to either your opponent's
head or their largest creature. |
 |
Arc
Blade - Rift Elemental |
This
isn't exactly the most cost efficient combo (although it becomes better
with a Heartstone) but it fun if you like fat elementals and two damage a
turn. Start off by suspending the Arc Blade with Rift Elemental in
play. Use the elemental's ability to remove counters from the
suspended blade, giving the Elemental +2/+0 each time until end of turn.
If you can afford four to six mana every turn, you get a large Elemental
and two damage from the Blade every turn. Submitted by Lionden_56. |
 |
Leaden
Fists - Brass Gnat or Brass Man |
Leaden
Fists has two uses. One is to pump up a creature one time to
perhaps make the final blow to defeat an opponent. The other is to
keep a creature from untapping -- say a Darksteel Colossus. Why not
take advantage of both mechanics going on in Leaden Fists and enchant a
creature that wouldn't untap during your untap step anyway. Cards
like Brass Gnat and Brass Man have built-in abilities to untap themselves
during your upkeep for 1. By giving them +3/+3 from Leaden Fists,
this upkeep cost doesn't go up. Suddenly paying 1 mana to untap a
4/5 or 4/4 flyer doesn't seem so bad. Stasis anyone?

Pooling
Venom - Simic Guildmage |
Pooling
Venom - the new and improved Psychic Venom. Here's a trick for you,
activate the ability of Pooling Venom to destroy the land it is
enchanting. Before it resolves, use Simic Guildmage (or any other
Aura mover) to relocate the Venom to another land. It can be
expensive overall, costing six mana to pull off, but recurring land
destruction can be quite aggravating for any opponent.

Korlash,
Heir to Blackblade - Lord of the Undead |
Korlash,
Heir to Blackblade and Lord of the Undead must be graveyard buddies.
I mean they work so well together. With both in play and a Korlash
in hand, discard to the one in hand to use Korlash's Grandeur ability
(pull two Swamps out of your library and put them into play tapped).
Now use Lord of the Undead's ability to return the Korlash in your
graveyard to your hand. Discard it again to pull another two lands
out of your library. In just a few turns, you will have pulled out
every Swamp in your deck and you'll have a huge Korlash for your
opponents' to try and deal with! Submitted by Inst. |
 |
Homing
Sliver - Conspiracy |
It's
the new Survival of the Fittest! This time in red and black.
When you play Conspiracy, set it to Slivers. Now any creature in
your deck, so long as Homing Sliver is in play, can search out for any
creature in your deck. Talk about king of utility. If Homing
Sliver isn't in play, you can still sacrifice the Homing Sliver to search
out your library for another creature. Submitted by Julian Fischer. |

Char-Rumbler
- Braid of Fire |
Hey!
We've got another use for Braid of Fire! This time, the recipient of
the red mana goes to a double-striking elemental named Char-Rumbler.
Every turn you get more and more red mana from the Braid of Fire to feed
the elemental and make it a hearty win condition. Make sure to have
a back-up plan should your Char-Rumbler be disposed. Manaburn can hurt.
Of course, you could always just
sacrifice Braid of Fire... Submitted by YWN. |
 |
Bridge
from Below - Leyline of the Void |
The
easiest way to break Bridge from Below is to cast Leyline of the Void.
The replacement effect from the Leyline will negate the second ability of
Bridge from Below -- allowing you to keep it in play and net lots of 2/2
Zombie creature tokens. |
 |
Fleshwrither
- Nephilims |
You
don't need to build an all-star $500 mana base to cast those Nephilim
anymore -- just use Fleshwrither. His Transfigure ability lets you
sacrifice it and search your library for a creature with the same
converted mana cost (four) as the Writher and put that creature into play.
And what do you know? The Nephilim all have converted mana costs of
four. Now the question is -- which one to Pull first. Submitted by Julian Fischer. |
 |
Fatal
Attraction - Stuffy Doll |
Instead
of pins, Stuffy Doll gets shards of glass! And deals lots of damage
to one of your opponents. Submitted by Avatarofrage. |

To the right and left of this text is something called
the MDV Deck Link. You will only find these link buttons on the
combo pages. When you click on the MDV Deck Link it will take you to a
deck related to the combo where you found it.
If the button is to
the left of the combo text, this means there is a deck already linked.
If the link is to the right, there is a deck found or that is going to be
posted. Or it is a combo I am currently looking for a deck using it. Mind you, not all decks links are going to center
around that particular combo, although most do.
