Lorwyn, the first set of the “Peanut” block, returns to a more traditional fantasy setting. Mechanically speaking, the set focuses on Tribal (much like Onslaught did but in a different way).  Being Human free, the set revolves around several major creature types including: Goblins, Elves, Merfolk, Kithkin, Elementals, Faeries, Giants, Treefolk and Shapeshifters.  Each creature type is split up amongst two colors with the exception of Treefolk in three, Shapeshifters in all colors and Elementals in all colors.

One of the most notable introductions in the set is that of the new card type: Planeswalkers.  Another new card type, Tribal, is actually not new as it was first introduced in Planar Chaos with one card.

Lorwyn is also the start of a new set structure system where instead of three sets per block, there are only two sets per block.
