Infinite Engine: Quillspike - Devoted Druid! |
|
  |
This combo was submitted to me via PM in the forums by
Gamerpunk666. This is an infinite capable two card combo in
Standard! That's right, in Standard. Tap the druid for a green
mana assuming it already has a -1/-1 counter on it. Use the green
mana to pay for Quillspike's abilty and remove a -1/-1 counter from the
Druid. Now untap the Druid using its own ability and add both a
green mana to your mana pool and a -1/-1 counter to the Druid.
Repeat these steps to make an arbitrarily large Quillspike or add
another card to make infinite mana (mana reflection), infinite mill
(Altar of Dementia), infinite damage (Fling), etc... Thanks for
the combo. This combo was actually submitted by many people; thank
you to all! |

Early Frost - Isochron Scepter. |
|
  |
What doesn't the Scepter combo with??? ... Today's
combo is for those of your that can't afford a playset of Orim's Chant
and at the same time don't want to play with Stasis or its ilk.
Early Frost can potentially tap down three lands a turn every turn with
the help of Isochron Scepter. While this might not seem like a big
deal, if you are against a big mana deck it is going to slow them down.
Perhaps enough to win you the game. Remember to tap them down
during their upkeep phase so they can't respond with playing a Sorcery
or Creature Card... |

Nantuko Monastery - Wilt-Leaf Liege |
|
  |
I have to be completely honest here: this isn't really a
combo. It is, however, some fantastic synergy. Nantuko
Monastery is land that most people overlook as being both a green and
white creature. And thus, this card would go great into any of
your existing and current green/white hybrid decks. If you have
the Liege into play and Threshold is active, your Monastery is a 6/6
first striking creature instead of just a 4/4 first striking creature.
Find a way to give it trample and you now have a game winning land! |

Aether Charge - Cavern Harpy. |
|
  |
Cavern Harpy is useful in more than just your infinite
Aluren decks... For instance, take Aether Charge for example. With
Cavern Harpy, for each UB you invest in recasting Cavern Harpy only to
bounce itself, you deal four damage to an opponent. That's a
pretty efficient use of two mana in my opinion. While the two
cards don't share a color, all of the mana fixing available from Ravnica
block and after should help you smooth out your mana base. |

Karakas - Tivadar of Thorn. |
|
  |
Finding a combo card for Karakas is tough because you
want to find a creature that is both Legendary and has a comes into play
that you can recycle turn after turn. Unfortunately, there are
very few Legendary creatures which have an efficient comes into play
ability. Verdeloth is one option. However, I thought Tivadar
of Thorn was a bit more fun (and cheaper to cast). While these two
cards work really well when you are paired up against a goblin deck, it
work even better if you have a card that makes all of your opponent's
creatures Goblins... |

Heed the Mists - Mystical Tutor |
|
  |
I can't say that Heed the Mists is the best card drawing
spell known to Magic players, but it still has combo potential.
Use a card like Mystical Tutor (or any other Tutor that puts a card on
top of your library) to search out your library for the most expensive
casting card in your deck. Put that card on top of your library
and then play Heed the Mists. Your five mana investment will be
well worth it assuming you tutored a card that cost more than five.
...Blinkmoth Infusion is a nice target for Mystical Tutor. |

Fog Bank - Valor Made Real |
|
  |
Fog Bank is great at fending off creatures with flying as
long as they don't have a basilisk ability or trample. Even better
is a Fog Bank that you cast Valor Made Real on... while the effect only
lasts until end of turn, it can save you from a deadly attack from an
opponent assuming it involves lots of creatures. A possible
replacement for Valor Made Real is Entangler. It's more expensive
but it lasts more than just one turn. |

Ertai, the Corrupted - Rancor |
|
  |
Ertai, the Corrupted is an interesting twist on the
original Ertai, Wizard Adept. They both can counter spells, but
the Corrupt version requires a much more intensive casting cost:
sacrifice a creature or enchantment. In order to make this ability
less taxing you need to find cards that recur themselves. Whether
its a Nether Spirit of a recurring enchantment from Urza's Block, Rancor
seems to be one of the more efficient cards. Play Rancor,
sacrifice it to counter a spell with Ertai, and then reply it to
possibly counter another spell next turn. If you want something
more in the colors of Ertai the Corrupted, try Cessation. |

Mirrorweave - Hulking Giant. |
|
  |
Today's combo comes from the
Shadowmoor Combo Page #1 of 3... "I
was wracking my brain for a good creature to copy with Mirrorweave and
it didn't net me any really good results. However, MaGo over at
www.wizards.com recommended Hulking Cyclops. Ingenious. If
you attack with five creatures and your opponent have whatever (say ten)
creatures... before they assign blockers cast Mirrorweave and turn all
creatures into the Hulking Cyclops. Suddenly they can't block your
onslaught and don't forget all of your creatures are now 5/5's!
Excellent." So what ever happened to Part 2 and Part 3?
I guess I'd better hurry up! |

Barren Glory - Worldpurge - Oblivion Ring. |
|
   |
While this is an expensive investment, it's a great
combo. I stole this one from FrycHiKn's "Barren Glory" deck thread
in the casual deck forum. If you want to see and comment on his
decklist, and help him name it, go
here. Anyway... this combo works
like this: Play Barren Glory. Then Play Oblivion Ring on Barren
Glory. Then Play Worldpurge and choose to keep no cards.
Barren Glory will come back into play since Oblivion Ring left play and
you will win the game. (Since you have no other cards in play and
no cards in hand). Play with lots of signets... |

Liliana Vess - Wrath of God |
|
  |
This planeswalker inspired combo was submitted by Jason
G. Note that Wrath of God can easily be replaced with Damnation
(which works better if you want to play a mono-black control style
deck). To quote Jason, "One will clear the creatures and put
them into the graveyard, the other will say thank you very much and
march them back towards your opponent." |

Today's combo comes from a private message I received in
the MDV Forum from Syphon, an established member of the forum. To
quote him: "First claimed by me: Leech Bonder + Banishing Knack. Need to
get [rid] of creatures? Or want a hitter? Use the Knack on the Bonder,
move the -1/-1 counters away after removing a blocker! Quick and
simple!" Thanks for the combo, Syphon. |

Entomb - Reanimate |
|
  |
This combo is originally from a
2004
combo page and in my eyes is an evil combo. Capable of bringing
something like Verdant Force or Akroma, Angel of Wrath out on the
first turn, all you have to do is invest two black mana and a bit of
life. That's a small price to pay if its going to win you the game
in one or two turns. |

Spore Frog - Pattern of Rebirth. |
|
  |
I try not to overlap the deck of the day and the combo of
the day, but today I couldn't help it. I guess Pattern of Rebirth
is one of my favorite enchantment cards in green, along side Fecundity
and a few others. In any event, Pattern of Rebirth works best on a
creature that can sacrifice itself. One such card is Spore Frog.
While it's ability isn't necessarily relevant to the Pattern of Rebirth,
it still is an easy way to activate the Pattern and get a bigger
creature into play. Other examples include Marker Beetles and
Yavimaya Elder. |

Sliver Overlord - Amoeboid Changeling |
|
  |
The changelings of Lorwyn are very good at creating crazy
combos and insane shenanigans. This card pair is no different.
Use the Amoeboid Changeling to turn an opponent (good) creature into a
Sliver. (Can you see where I'm going with this?) Then use
the Sliver Overlord's ability, which doesn't require a tap, to take
control of that creature. Note that this effect doesn't end at end
of turn. This combo was submitted by Sir Zudic. Thanks, Sir Zudic! |

Lifespark Spellbomb - Eradicate |
|
  |
This combo was submitted by Bob. Have you ever
played a game where it seemed there was no land in your deck? You
just keep drawing and drawing and turn after turn you came up empty on
lands? Turns out all of the lands were clumped at the bottom of
your deck. I'm sure it was a horrible feeling as I'm sure you
probably lost those games. If you want to share the dread of never
drawing another land, or close to it, try these two cards. Animate an
opponent's land (preferably one that you know he or she has lots of in
the deck) and then Eradicate it. All copies of that land in their
hand, library and graveyard will be removed from the game. Payback
is a wonderful thing sometimes... |

Do you like the power of Jaws of Stone but not like the
dedication to Mountains that it requires? Does this depress you
day in and day out? That you can't play Jaws of Stone efficiently
because you like to splash other colors? Try Elsewhere Flash!
Not only does it net you a card when it comes into play, but at that
precise moment that you want to sorcerize Jaws of Stone onto the stack,
just Elsewhere Flash all of your lands into Mountains!! Suddenly
you can do a sigh of relief and know you've done Jaws of Stone
justice!!! Good job. (This is a good in draft). |

Rites of Spring - Nantuko Cultivator |
|
  |
I have to do one more. Here's another combo from
Inquest Magazine #85. This is sort of an off-week, week-long
homage to Inquest Magazine which I miss dearly. Let's quote the
combo, shall we? "Talk about deck-thinning.
Toss your hand, minus the Cultivator, to Rites after you've got a
four-mana base in play. Next turn, play a giant Cultivator, turning
those lands into valuable cards."
Did anyone ever actually play these two cards?
It's a good mono-green combo but did it actually win you any games?

Ichorid - Zombie Infestation. |
|
  |
Here's another combo from Inquest Magazine #85 from May
2002. Seeing this combo now is kind of humorous. You'll see
what I mean when you read their original combo comments:
"Turbo Ichorid decks are likely to make waves in
Standard. Buried Alive works wonders for getting Ichorid and some
food into the graveyard, but the Infestation provides defense against
those speedy Mongrels and Herd tokens."
What Inquest did not predict was the Ichorid's
influence on Extended, Vintage and Legacy... |

Here's another combo straight from Inquest Magazine #85
(same one as yesterday). Have I ever mentioned I really miss
Inquest...? If not, I really miss Inquest. To quote them on
these two cards:
"It's Probe with Kicker on steroids, all you need
is threshold. On your opponent's upkeep, cast Plagiarize.
Then blow your Coliseum, targetting your foe. Net result: You draw
four cards, and he discards three." |

Standstill - Kjeldoran Outpost |
|
  |
This combo is quoted from an old Inquest Magazine,
specifically #85 from May 2002: "Standstill's not just a casual card.
It buys you time in the early game. It can replenish your hand
after you ditch to a Wild Mongrel. And it guarantees Extended
decks three cards, once your Outpost starts churning out creatures."
Let me know what you think about quoting old Inquest
Magazines for their combos. It would be really fun to see some of
the combos from the first 40 issues. |

Umbilicus
- Second Chance - Monk Idealist |
|
   |
Yet another
"infinity" combo
- this one was submitted by Alvaro Toledo. You have to have 5 or less life to make this one work.
Have all three cards in play. During your upkeep the Second Chance will activate since your have 5 or less life.
Use the Umbilicus to return the Monk to your hand. Then cast it during
your main phase and bring the Second Chance from your graveyard to your hand.
Cast it. Now the cycle can be repeated during your extra turn from
Second Chance and thus you can get "infinite" turns. Nice. |

This combo was originally posted on the

the old combos out, please do so now. You won't regret it.
In the meantime, this combo is great. Here's what I said about the
combo back in 2002: "No
one ever said the False Prophet was original. He copies the Wrath
of God ability and when Halloween comes around who does he dress up as?
Why himself, of course! Of course, when the Prophet dons the Mask
of the Mimic, it has the nice side effect of removing all creatures from
the game and popping another Prophet into play for insurance."

Claws of Gix - Reins of Power. |
|
  |
This
is an old combo that I personally love. It works like this.
Cast Reins of Power and switch creatures with
an opponent until end of turn. Then, with Claws of Gix, pay one for
each creature, sacrifice it and gain a life for each. While this
combo has been ousted by Reins of Power - Spawning Pit (as with Spawning
Pit you don't have to pay anything to sacrifice), it's still fun.

Forced Fruition - Mind's Eye |
|
  |
If
you are still trying to find some cards to combo or have good synergy with
Forced Fruition, look no further. Here's another card that works
terribly well with Forced Fruition -- Mind's Eye. While your
opponent is being technically milled by your aggressive enchantment, you
can be selective on the cards you draw. Whenever they play a spell,
they have to draw seven cards. You can pay X mana at that time to
draw X cards where X is anywhere from zero to seven. If you only
want to draw three cards, pay three mana to the Mind's Eye.
You have complete control over it now. Yeah, it sucks that you have
to pay mana, but 1 colorless per card is a good deal. |

Eternal Domination - Twincast |
|
  |
Eternal Domination and its related Epic spells from
Saviors of Kamigawa are huge spells with a a huge drawback: You can't
play any more spells for the rest of the game! In the case of
Eternal Dominion you get to search your opponent's library for a card
and put into play on your side of the table. If you Twincast the
Eternal Dominion before it resolves you'll now get to search your
opponent's library for two cards each round. Good times. |

"A

and then pay two mana (when you have it) to put it into play tapped.
Mind you, you'll have to skip your next turn, but in the early game, one

Eternal format." ...quoted from the

Wow! It's hard to believe MDV has been around for almost six
years! (July 15th is the unofficial anniversary day). Back
to the combo for today... Book Burning is a great way to reach Threshold
if you target yourself. Assuming Book Burning threw something
beefy or combo-rific into your graveyard (creature-wise), use Stitch
Together to put that card into play now that you've reached Threshold.
These two cards definately work well together. |

Mindleech Mass - Capsize |
|
  |
This combo was originally published on YWN's first combo
page
on MDV. To quote YWN, "Mindleech
Mass is one of those cards with an awesome effect, but isn't really played
due to its mana cost. Sure its a 6/6 with Trample, but by the time you get
8 mana your opponent hasn't got anything in hand worth stealing. (*cough*
Zombify it *cough*) Then all you have to do is attack with it, and when
damage is on the stack, bounce a nonland permanent to his or her hand. Now
you know you got something worth of stealing. Capsize is better at this
because you can re-use it again and again. Enjoy." |

Eon Hub - Stasis |
|

|
Lockdown at its best. Or is it? I suppose a
well timed Counterspell or Disenchant can foil this card combination.
However, this here is a potent card combination that will keep Stasis on
the board and lots of permanents tapped. Stasis would normally
require that you pay U during each of your upkeeps or sacrifice it.
Eon Hub makes all players skip their upkeep steps. And thus,
without an upkeep, you will never have to pay the one blue mana to keep
Stasis around. It will just stick around. As far as building
a deck goes, I would recommend Force of Will and Show and Tell... |

Did you know that Seismic Assault is relative to a card
from Legends known as Lands' Edge? Or did you know that Life from
the Loam is a distant cousin to Land Tax? What does this have to
do with today's combo? Absolutely nothing. When you combine
the powerful and combo-rific Life from the Loam with Seismic Assault,
suddenly the Loam turns into a Gatling gun using lands in your deck as
ammo. ...or something like that. Just keep discarding the
lands to Seismic Assault to deal the damage and then dredge the Life
from the Loam to cast again and keep on going with the assault. |

Painter's Servant - Reap |

Reap is just one of over three hundred cards that combo
really well with Painter's Servant. In fact, there are probably a
lot more than three hundred cards. In any event, here's what
happens with these two cards. Play Painter's Servant and set the
color to black. All of your opponent's permanents, in addition
cards in other zones, are now black. When you play Reap you can
put any number of cards from your graveyard into your hand so long as
you don't put more than the number of black permanents your opponent
controls. If they are all black, like they are thanks to Painter's
Servant, then you should have prime pickings of your graveyard.
That is, as long as they aren't playing a Balancing Act deck. |

This combo was submitted by Gilbert D. As a quick
aside, expect to see Swans of Bryn Argoll several times in the upcoming
months. This is not because I have a limited number of combos to
post, but because there are so many cards that combo with the Swans.
Much like Painter's Servant, the Swans are just too combo-rific to only
feature once in Combo of the Day. So back to this combo -- with
both in play you are guaranteed drawings three cards in each of your
turns in addition to your normal draw step. Not bad. A 4/3
flyer, a 5/5 first striker and three cards a turn -- seems like a
perfect team to me. |

Sphere of Law - Manabarbs |
|
  |
Manabarbs is a fantastic symmetrical card that can really
slow down a game. The more spells and the more expensive spells a
person plays, the more they will succumb to the damage of the 'barbs.
Remember what I said about the card being symmetrical? Throw that
out the window. Have a Sphere of Law in play so that whenever you
tap a land and the 'barbs triggers, Sphere of Law will prevent the
damage. And thus, you will take no damage and your opponent...
well, they won't be in as good of a position as you... |

Let it be known that any card that can tap a creature is
a combo with an untap creature. And any cards that can tap your
creature and by any means generate mana it will usually end up in some
sort of infinite loop or infinite whatever combo. This combo is
not one of those crazy infinite mana combos. However, it will
translate into "U: Draw a card and deal 1 damage to a target." As
long as you have a counter to move around and the mana to do it, these
two cards work very nicely together. This combo was submitted in the
forums by EpilepticCricket. |

This combo originally came from MDV's Ninth Edition Combo

Picture
this, every turn (even your opponent's) you get at least one 1/1 Saproling
token to control. After a few rounds you will have a nice little
mold army. Say you have 10 creatures now (total)... activate the
Slate of Ancestry for only 4 mana and draw 10 cards. That makes
discarding your hand look like nothing. I am glad Wizards reprinted
Verdant Force. It's a great card and I hope it makes some tournament
play. |

This combo comes from the Avatar Theme Week Combo Page,
found here. Quoting the
description from that page: Who

Praetor that wasn't Breeding Pit and then it came to me: Power Conduit.
Instead of sacrificing a creature every turn, just let the -2/-2 counter
fall upon the Praetor. Then use Power Conduit to turn that -2/-2
counter into a +1/+1 counter. Don't forget that this Avatar has
trample AND first strike. |

Reflecting Pool is potentially a City of Brass without
the Pain but the trick is getting all of the different mana colors in
your mana base to make it work. If you have all five basic lands
then the Pool with be able to generate any of those colors when you tap

Because they can tap for any color mana they influence the Reflecting
Pool to do the same. It's an ingenius card combination that makes

Dream Salvage - Magus of
the Jar |
|
 |
Finding the right card for Dream Salvage can be a challenge. It
has to be a card like Mind Twist or Persecute that has the potential to
make your opponent discard a lot of cards. But not all of those
cards have to be black. Magus of the Jar will force an opponent to
draw seven cards and then discard them at the end of his or her turn.
Timed well, the Dream Salvage could potentially draw you seven cards and
all for one mana. That's a good combo. Thanks, MaGo and the
many people who submitted this in the forum and via email. |

Kavu Predator - Grove of
the Burnwillows |
|
  |
This combo was submitted to MDV via email by Skye and is
suggested for multiplayer (group) games. In a four person game and
with both cards in play, one tap of the Grove will suddenly make your
Kavu Predator a 5/5 trampling threat. The more players in the
game, the more of a threat the Kavu will become with each tap of the
Grove. How does this work? Well, whenever an opponent gains
life you get to put that many +1/+1 counters on the Kavu. Grove of
the Burnwillow, if tapped for red or green mana, will make your
opponent's gain life. And not just one opponent, but all
opponents. Thus the more players, the more potent this card
combincation is. Thanks for the combo, Skye. |

Juniper Order Ranger -
Murderous Redcap |
|
  |
Want to make Juniper Order Ranger infinitely big?
420.5n deck style? Try combining Murderous Redcap with Juniper
Order Ranger. When you play the Redcap it deals 2 damage to a
target; target itself (killing the Redcap). Persist will bring it
back with a -1/-1 counter and the Ranger will give it and itself a +1/+1
counter. Thanks to rule 420.5, the +1/+1 counter and the -1/-1
counter negate themsevles and thus you can repeat with the redcap
targetting himself. This will make an infinitely large Juniper
Order Ranger. How to make this infinite:
You can fling the Juniper Order Ranger for infinite damage, give the
Ranger trample and attack or simply add a sacrifice outlet like Nantuko
Husk and deal that 2 damage each time to your opponent, doing infinite
damage. With Mother of Runes you can go infinite life... and so
on. |

Morselhoarder - Power of
Fire - Sinking Feeling |
|
   |
Infinite Damage! And this one was submitted to me
via email by Silk. Thanks, Silk. Here's how it works:
Enchant Morselhoarder with both Power of Fire and Sinking Feeling.
Let's assume it still has two -1/-1 counters on it. Tap the
Morselhoarder to deal a damage to something or someone. Remove a
counter from Morselhoarder to add a mana to your mana pool (color is
irrelevant). Use that mana to untap Morselhoarder with Sinking Feeling
and then put a -1/-1 counter on Morsehoarder as part of the cost to
untap it. You should now be back where you were. Continue
for infinite damage. Thanks again, Silk, for the combo. |

Renounce - Second Sunrise. |
|
  |
This combo was submitted by ThunderHog! I'll just
quote him: "Renounce + Second Sunrise... It's an interesting, mono-white
combo that's relatively cheap and can be used in many different ways.
Not only can you gain life with it, but if you throw in a few creatures
that say: "When this creature comes into play..." it can turn pretty
nasty. Another thing that can also benefit from this combo are
fading/vanishing creatures. Using this combo with them resets their
counter number." Thanks for the combo, TH!!! |

Sea King's Blessing -
Cowardice - Natural Affinity |
|
   |
This combo was submitted by Transcendent a while back.
With Cowardice in play, play Natural Affinity. Seems harmless,
right? Not until you break out old school Legends card Sea King's
Blessing! For one mana you can target all of your opponent's lands
and creatures (note that all of their lands are creatures now thanks to
Affinity) and return them to their owner's hand. It's an
asymmetircal Sunder. Not bad. Thanks for the combo, T.!
Can I call you T.? |

Wheel of Fate - Underworld
Dreams |
|
  |
This combo was submitted by JestingWizard some time ago.
Note that he recommends using Magus of the Jar and/or Megrim with these
two cards. Wheel of Fate is a great card to refill or recycle
everyone's hand. Underworld Dreams really makes Wheel of Fate an
efficient use of mana as not only will they recycle their hand but they
will take seven damage too. Thanks for the combo,
JestingWizard. |

Kuro, Pitlord - Magus of
the Mirror |
|
 |
This combo was submitted by Yalcin. Having a Misery Charm
handy after executing these two cards together is a good idea. First,
use the Kuro, Pitlord to give one or all of your opponent's creatures
-1/-1 until end of turn. Do this until you have 1 life left and then
stop. Now activate Magus of the Mirror to exchange life totals with your
opponent. (Now is when you want to use the Misery Charm to win the
game). thanks for the combo, Yalcin! |

Gemstone Mine - Ravnica
Bounce Lands |
|
 |
This combo was submitted by Roberto a long, long time ago
(2006!) Gemstone Mine only gives you three mana before it would
normally die. Why not extend the life of this amazing Mine and
bounce it with one of the bounce lands from Ravnica (like Golgari Rot
Farm) before you remove the last counter. Next turn, just play the
Gemstone Mine again and keep getting your any-color mana for a few more
turns. Thanks for submitting this combo, Roberto! Note that I only
delete a combo submitted to me via email if I've used it or replied to
it. If you have your own combo to submit email it to
this address. |

Grimoire Thief - Freed
from the Real |
|
  |
This combo was submitted to MDV via email by JesseM.
Grimoire Thief is ripe for abusing if you have cards that can tap down
creatures for a benefit (such as Earthcraft or Opposition).
However, Freed from the Real is capable of both untapping and tapping
the enchanted creature. Thus, if you enchant Grimoire Thief with
Freed from the Real, two blue mana equal remove three cards from the top
of your opponent's library. ("UU: Remove the top three cards of
target opponent's library...") Thanks for the combo, JesseM. |

Carpet of Flowers -
Quicksilver Fountain |
|
  |
Carpet of Flowers is one of those cards that cares if
your opponent is playing a particular color (specifically playing
islands). Otherwise, its mediocre to worseless. And thus, if your
opponent isn't playing blue, Carpet of Flowers is waste of cardboard.
This is where Quicksilver Fountain comes into play. Each turn you
get to turn one of their lands into an island and then Carpet of Flowers
will lend you some extra mana in return. Use this mana for
whatever, but these two cards are a match made for playing. |

Bottle Gnomes - Skeleton
Shard |
|
 |
Want to gain three life a turn for 3B and have a chump
blocker too? Then give this duo a dance. The gnomes can
block an opponent's attacker and then sacrifice itself to gain you three
life. When you gnomes are dead in the grave just spend 3 or B to
bring them back to your hand thanks to the Shard. Then you get to
cast them all over again and experience the fun the funny looking gnomes
have to offer. I'm sure this combo works well with any of
the evil Pay Life: Draw some cards enchantments like Yawgmoth's
Bargain... |

Energy Vortex - Thran
Turbine |
|
  |
Sorry today's Combo of the Day is late. In any
event, these two cards are in my Top Twenty List (plug for future
article series). Thran Turbine was originally designed to feed
Echo costs in the Urza's block. It also feeds cards that have
activation costs that can be used during your upkeep, like the one on
Energy Vortex. Thran Turbine is one way to ensure your opponent
takes the damage from the Vortex. If you want to know more about
either card, just click on the thumbnails to the right. Enjoy the
blue burn from this combo. |

Pyromancy - Draco |
|
  |
Pyromancy is one of those dollar bin rares that deserves
better. If you've been paying attention you will see in Knollspine
Invocation what was once in Pyromancy. (I hope that makes sense...)
In any event, the best card to discard to Pyromancy (that I can think
of) is Draco. The trick is making sure you randomly discard it and
to do that just make sure its the only card in your hand. Pyromancy
works really well in a high casting cost tribe like Dragons, Giants,
Treefolk and even some Scourge wizards... |

Mycosynth Lattice -

I don't know if Shattering Spree made a big appearance in
the Eternal Formats since its printing. I do know that Shattering
Spree with a Mycosynth Lattice in play can be a one sided
pseudo-Obliterate if you have enough mana available to you. This
combo was originally submitted to MDV by Death_By_Beebles. Thanks,
Beebz! |

Essence Sliver - Plague
Sliver |
|
 |
"Plague
Djinn, I mean Sliver, is meant to work alone. In a sliver Tribal
deck, Plague Sliver could kill you faster than it can kill your opponent.
However, if you include a play set of Essence Sliver, Plague Sliver will
play nice with other slivers again. That is, with one copy of each,
the damage from the Plague Sliver will be negated. With two copies
of Essence Sliver in play, you now gain as much life as the slivers would
have dealt."

effective blast cards from Ice Age and you suddenly have a Vindicate for
one mana. Today's deck of the day features the red side of this
combo. |

Long Term Plans -
Brainstorm |
|
  |
What were they thinking when they printed
Long Term Plans? Didn't they realize they are potentially giving
blue mages a 2UU any-card tutor? With Brainstorm you can retrieve your
investment that same turn. The Long-Term Plans only makes the card
third from the top, so you can cast Brainstorm and draw three cards and
put any two from your hand back on top of your library. How's that
for a blue Diabolic Tutor? The only draw
back is it takes up two card slots in your deck versus the one of the
black tutor. Still, Brainstorm is an star* common. |

Weirding Shaman - Bog
Initiate - Mana Echoes |
Combo of the Day - Wednesday,
April 30, 2008 |
   |
Infinite
creatures. Infinite Mana. Here's how it works: Start with three Goblins
(including the Shaman), the Bog Initiate and Mana Echoes.
Sacrifice a goblin to generate two more goblins, adding 4 colorless
mana to your mana pool from Mana Echoes. Note that you have four Goblins
in play now. Use the Initiate to turn one of the colorless mana
into black mana. Now, sacrifice a Goblin token to generate two
more, using the mana you gain from the last round. Mana
Echoes will add 6 to your mana pool... and so on. Repeat for
infinite creatures and infinite mana. Originally

Painter's Servant -
Grindstone |
Combo of the Day - Tuesday, April 29,
2008 |
|
  |
This combo was submitted to MDV via email
by Akemi. Grindstone will keep grinding if the two cards you put
into a player's graveyard with it share a color. Before Painter's
Servant you had to worry about lands and artifacts messing up your
grind. With Painter's Servant, you will just keep grinding.. until
there's nothing left of your opponent's library. As long as the
Servant is in play, all of your opponents cards will be the color of
your choice. Thanks, Akemi! For more on Painter's Servant,

Daily Regimen - Triskelion |
Combo of the Day - Monday, April 28,
2008 |
|
  |
"There
are many ways to double, triple, increase and so on... the number of
+1/+1 counters on Triskelion (or any other card that can turn +1/+1
counters into something). Daily Regimen on Triskelion translates
into 1W: Deal 1 damage to target creature or player. This sounds
like a good deal - especially for white aligned decks (which normally
can't deal direct damage). I'm just sayin'... " ~Morningtide

Earthcraft - Squirrel Nest |
Combo of the Day - Friday, April 25, 2008 |
|
  |
"How
nice, a mono-green "infinity" combo. With Earthcraft in play and
the squirrel nest enchanting one of your lands, tap the nested land and
make a squirrel token. Tap the squirrel token to untap the nested
land with Earthcraft. Repeat this for "infinite" squirrel
tokens. Throw in a mana or life catalyst, and go to town.
What's nice about this combo is that it is completely controllable.
If wanted to make this a mana
engine, add one of the Altars to the mix; you could even substitute
Intruder Alarm for the Earthcraft to perform the same function only if
your lands are animated into creatures.. namely the land that is
enchanted by Nest." -MDV Infinite Combo - Creatures Page

Angel - Isochron Scepter - Final Fortune |
Combo of the Day - Thursday, April 24, 2008 |
|
   |
Imprinting Final Fortune, an instant from Mirage, on
Isochron Scepter would normally spell doom for you if you don't win that

clause on Final Fortune will be prevented. Thank the angel for
your infinite turns... this is just plain evil. |

Sigil of Sleep - Fledgling
Osprey... |
Combo of the Day - Wednesday, April 23,
2008 |
|
  |
While this combo doesn't nuke your opponents' land base
or destroy every card in the universe, it is evil. Both cards are
blue so already you are at an advantage. In all seriousness, a
first turn Osprey followed up with Sigil of Sleep leaves you with a
creature than can typically evade your opponents' creatures early on and
keep bouncing their creatures back to their hand. The Osprey is
susceptible to common removal but that's what blue is good at working
around... The Osprey can also be replaced with cards like Metathran
Soldier or Escape Artist. Take your pick... |

Entomb - Reanimate |
Combo of the Day - Tuesday, April 22, 2008 |
|
  |
This combo is originally from a
2004
combo page and in my eyes is an evil combo. Capable of bringing
something like Verdant Force or Akroma, Angel of Wrath out on the
first turn, all you have to do is invest two black mana and a bit of
life. That's a small price to pay if its going to win you the game
in one or two turns. NOTE: Darksteel Colossus,
as previously mentioned in error, does not work here. |

Vise was restricted for a reason. This combo is a good
reason. Prosperity for 7... throw down black vise.. and
ouch! If you opponent had 4 cards in hand his/her last turn then
they are going to take 7 damage come their upkeep. Try to watch
them sweat as they try to get Palinchron, Spiritmonger, Krosan Beast,
and so on out of their hand in one turn. Fun stuff!"
