December 2007 --  in reverse order. Discuss Here

Smells More Like Spirit.

Deck of the Day - Friday, December 28, 2007

Smells More Like Spirit. You have to love the title of the deck. Once you get past the catchy title, you have a mean white-blue incarnation of a deck using cards like Tireless Tribe, Confessor, Glory and Deep Analysis in combination with Spirit Cairn for the win. If you like a different approach to a white-blue deck, check this one out.

Assault on the Earth.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, December 27, 2007

Assault on the Earth. If you like attacking with lands opposed to normal 'just-creature' creatures, this deck is for you. Genju of the Cedars, Earth Surge, Woodwraith Corrupter and Ambush Commander are all in this deck. Oh, and Rude Awakening too. How fitting! Anyway, this deck is a great start if you want to build a beatdown land deck.

Massacre-less Control.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Massacre-less Control. This is a rogue T1.5 deck built by Sebastian Smith over at StarCity Games some time back using lots of efficient black discard spells and cards like Manticore, The Rack and Powder Keg. While I don't think it would stand up in the current metagame, what do I know about that format. I'm casual. Note that I updated this deck page with the deck detail from the author and deck creator (which I try to do when posting these deck of the days).

Standard Salt and Pepper Vapors.

Deck of the Day - Friday, December 21, 2007

Standard Salt and Pepper Vapors. Standard refers to the format it was built for. Salt and Pepper refers to the colors of the deck: black and white. Vapors... well that refers to Lethal Vapors, which this deck attempts to abuse. Curious? Check it out.

Islandhome.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, December 20, 2007

Islandhome. This is just one of those fun decks I enjoy playing not to win, but to enjoy blue and cards like Sea Monster, Manta Ray and so on.  The majority of the creatures in the deck are islandwalkers or islandhomers (can only attack if an opponent controls an island).  How do you get around Islandhomers?  I mean, if you opponent isn't playing and you are stuck with a bunch of defenders?

Roarrites.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, December 19, 2007

Roarrites. Adrian Sullivan designed this deck with the help of other Cabal Rogue members. It was a deck focused on Mindslicer and its impact on Standard, even though it didn't really see much action during the Odyssey block for many reasons. I would encourage you to check it out -- it abuses the Madness mechanic in Roar of the Wurm with cards like Mindslicer and Last Rites.

Hitting the Bottle.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, December 18, 2007

Hitting the Bottle. This deck doesn't recommend doing what its title suggests, especially since the deck can be a little complex. First you want to set up the Bottled Cloister - Ensnaring Bridge combo. Then add a little Dark Suspicions. Finish up with a Null Brooch and a Seizan and then once you've won... Well, you get the idea.

Chronocheese.

Deck of the Day - Monday, December 17, 2007

Chronocheese. This deck uses the new Barren Glory to give you an alternative win condition. For those that don't know, Barren Glory is the new "The Cheese Stands Alone" card which was original from Unglued. Using popular and powerful suspend cards like Restore Balance and Chronomantic Escape, you should have no problem in getting rid of all cards in hand and in play except for Barren Glory to win the game. Check out the deck for more information.

You Got Zurved!

Deck of the Day - Friday, December 14, 2007

You Got Zurved! The following is what Chris Millar has to say about this deck: "This deck came all the way from Denmark, courtesy of master single-card strategist Christian Moeller-Holst. I’m a sucker for a deck with a toolbox, and Zur the Enchanter is nothing if not handy around the house. Given a little time, the Coldsnap Legend can make you immune to damage, facilitate a sudden twenty-to-the-dome strategy, or even allow you to blow up all the lands in play, just for kicks. I like to have Armageddon in my toolboxes. Right next to the needle-nose pliers."

Rector Exam.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, December 13, 2007

Rector Exam. This deck attempt to lockdown the opponent from hurting you via three cards: Ivory mask, Bubble Matrix and Pariah. While the deck could use some work and possibly some card switch-outs, I would encourage you to atleast try it. Then fix it up and make it your own.

Rabid Licids.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Rabid Licids. If you like Enchant Creature spells, also known as Auras, you'll like this deck. Using the Licid cards from the Tempest block, you can build your own personalized creature. You see, the licids turn into Auras enchanting a creature. Put some of them on your Thran Golem or Rabid Wombat and go to town. Rounding out the deck you have Winds of Rath...

Erayo Affinity.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Erayo Affinity. This particular deck placed 7th @ the Columbus, OH regionals back when Mirrodin block was prevalent. It combines the popular Affinity concept with Erayo, Soratami Ascendant and Genesis Chamber. I could go on about the deck, but I figured I would let you figure it out. Affinity and control at its best...

Mercilicious.

Deck of the Day - Monday, December 10, 2007

Mercilicious. Chris Millar, this deck's creator, wanted to abuse Stingscourger from Planar Chaos.  Did he succeed in doing so?  You'll just have to check out the deck to find out.  I will tell you this, he combines Stingscourger with Aether Membrane and Kaervek the Merciless.  Where it goes from there... well, like I said -- you'll have to find out for yourself!!!

Seeking Liege.

Deck of the Day - Friday, December 7, 2007

Seeking Liege. Wow -- This is an old deck of mine. I kind of forgot about it until I randomly chose it for today's deck of the day. If you like Forests and you like Gaea's Liege, you might like this deck. There aren't as many forestwalkers in the deck as I would typically include in this type of deck, however, it loaded with ways to make those forests work for you.

Twelvepost.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, December 6, 2007

Twelvepost. This is a deck created and piloted by Gabriel Nassif at Pro Tour KOBE in 2004. It took him to first place! The name comes from the Cloudposts and the eight means to search out the Cloudposts in the form of Sylvan Scrying and Reap and Sow - hence the possibkle 12 Cloudposts (not literally). Once the deck has its mana ramped up it entwines a Tooth and Nail to bring two of its power critters into play (like Darksteel Colossus).  Or a Mindslaver...

Red Elements.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Red Elements. Back before the elemental surge of Ravnica and Lorwyn, I put together a deck of red elementals including cards like Cinder Elemental, Skizzik, Fire Elemental and Subterranean Spirit. Since then there have been a plethora of good red elementals. However, this deck doesn't have any of them. If you like tribal and want to make a red elemental tribal deck, check this deck out. Use it as a point of reference.

UR Snow 2006.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, December 4, 2007

UR Snow 2006. "This is a “draw-go” style deck. The plan is to just play a land every turn and pass. You almost never play a spell in your own turn in order to keep mana open during your opponent’s turn. If your opponent plays something threatening, you use your open mana to counter it. The deck includes 14 counterspells, so you should usually hold one..." -Frank Karsten about another's deck.

Hulk Smash.

Deck of the Day - Monday, December 3, 2007

Hulk Smash. Hulk Smash is a deck from the Eternal Formats. In all honesty, I don't keep up with the Eternal Formats so I don't know if this deck is still viable. However, it uses a combination of Cunning and Psychatog to combat an opponent. And during its heyday, it did well. If you like Psychatog, I would encourage you to check this deck out. If you have a deck description for it, let me know via email.

November 2007 --  in reverse order. Discuss Here

Hatch-It Job.

Deck of the Day - Friday, November 30, 2007

Hatch-it Job. As you might have guessed, this deck uses Hatching Plans with cards like Read the Runes. However, what you probably didn't guess is that it is a Horror Tribal deck too! Curious? Click the link.

Thallid Haze.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, November 29, 2007

Thallid Haze. Thallids are a great creature type. In fact, Thallids and Spikes are two of my all time favorites. This particular deck combhines a little blue with these moldy critters to tap upon cards like Followed Footsteps and Paradox Haze. If that wasn't mean enough, the deck's creator decided Doubling Season was fair game.

Un Tidaled.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Un Tidaled. To Infinite and Beyond... with a bunch of non-rare cards. Tidewater Minion... Dimir Aqueduct... Freed from the Real. Actually, they are all common. Generate Infinite mana. Combine it with a bunch of LITE cards and suddenly you have a cool deck. I would encourage you to check this one out.

Rug Routes.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Rug Routes. This one of the many decks that tie in the name of the deck with the colors of the deck. The deck is URG in colors, which can spell RUG. Combine the color with one of the key cards, Trade Routes, and walla! You have a deck name. This particular decks likes cards like Seismic Assault, Crucible of Worlds and Sprouting Vines.

Tsetse.

Deck of the Day - Monday, November 26, 2007

Tsetse. To quote the opening paragraph of this deck's creator: "During my long sojourn, hunting for (and Gatherer-ing) Volcano Hellion combos, I stumbled upon a couple of six-legged freaks that seem like they wouldn't mind having liquid-hot magma spat upon them. I'm talking, of course, about Broodhatch Nantuko and Bennie Smith's beloved Saber Ants..."

Reborn the Ivy League.

Deck of the Day - Friday, November 16, 2007

Reborn the Ivy League. This deck is a remake of an old favorite of mine called Ivy League. While Death_By_Beebles version of my deck doesn't include Scent of Ivy, it still has some green heavy hitters and still includes Pattern of Rebirth. You should check it out, and rebuild it with your own collection. However, if you are going to use Ivy in the name, include at least one copy of Scent of Ivy in your deck...

Charisma is Greater.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Charisma is Greater. I'll give you two hints on what ths deck is all about.  Hint #1 -- The artwork on the card features Gerrard.  Hint #2 - the card that this deck revolves around is from the Masques block.  Heck.. I'll give you a third hint ... the deck revolves around a card reference in the title of the deck.  It's also a LITE deck.  Curious?

Leave No Stone Unturned.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Leave No Stone Unturned. This deck is one of the entries from a past deckbuilding contest titled Land Savvy. It was hosted by Death_By_Beebles in his Raiding the Dollar Bins article. This particular deck has many combos including Akki Raider and Impending Disaster, Mudhole and Planar Birth and Crucible of Words + Zuran Orb + Horn of Greed... to name a few. Check the deck out!

Super Snake Shooter.

Deck of the Day - Monday, November 12, 2007

Super Snake Shooter. To start off this week after a week of no Deck Feature Updates, I've got a deck from Death_By_Beebles. This deck is from one of his Raiding the Dollar Bins articles and features lots of snakes, cards like Endless Swarm and Blasting Station. Where it goes from there is up to your mechanical imagination. Check it out!

Streetzatog.

Deck of the Day - Friday, November 2, 2007

Streetzatog. This is an attempt at making a fun Atogatog deck but the fun really begins with cards like Lifeline and Fecundity. The mana base is very shaky, mainly because this is a LITE-like deck using few rares. Feel free to update this for your own use so you can dust off your Atogatogs currently in your bunk-card-box.

Nature's Assault.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, November 1, 2007

Nature's Assault. It's another Spellweaver Helix deck! This one uses Relentless Assault and Verdant Touch... and well, Nature's Will to attempt an infinite attack phase. Buyback spells with Spellweaver Helix are evil. Unfortunately, this particular combo involves combos. Oh - this is a deck from Inquest Magazine. Man, do I miss them...

October 2007 --  in reverse order. Discuss Here

Holy Golem.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Holy Golem. Wow!  This is an older deck... made long before the great Creature Type Update from Lorwyn.  If you like Golems and have ever thought of building a Golem tribal deck, use this deck as a platform to jump from.  It's not the best deck, but it how many Golem decks are there?

Oh My Keldon!

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, October 29th, 2007

Oh My Keldon! If you like to break bad rares, this deck is for you.  Abe Sargent from Star City Games put this deck together in an effort to break Keldon Battlewagon.  Yes, that's right... Keldon Battlewagon!  There's something about making a 100/100 creature with trample that's just fun and mean all at the same time.  Interested?  Check it out!

Joshie Green 2006.

Deck of the Day - Monday, October 29th, 2007

Joshie Green 2006. This is one of those metagame decks that was built in an effort to combat some of the trends of the metagame of its time.  This particular deck is a green-black aggro style deck with beatdown creatures and some board control.  And of course, Umezawa's Jitte is in the list too...

Fun With Faeries.

Deck of the Day - Friday, October 26, 2007

Fun With Faeries. Apparently Garruk works very well with the faeries of Lorwyn, and HappyBounce's deck, found in the MTGS forums, proves that.  This deck packs lots of new faeries with some old faeries to make for an efficient and evasive deck.  If you wanted to make a Fae deck, check this deck out for an example.

Ajani and Kumar Go To White Castle.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, October 25, 2007

Ajani and Kumar Go To White Castle. I hope everyone is enjoying Lorwyn Week thus far.  We are four days into this week and still have tons more stuff to throw your way.    This deck is being featured mostly for its name.  You have to admit, Ajani and Kumar Go To White Castle is ingenious.  Anyway, the basis of this deck?  Wrath of Gob + Ajani = FTW!

Dead and Stupid.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Dead and Stupid. How fitting that our deck of the day today is from a Raiding the Dollar Bins article. You'd almost think I planned it that way with there being a new Raiding the Dollar Bins article today. Anyway, this deck combines Omeletback Goliath with some recursion. Curious? Curious why I named him Omeletback? I must be hungry... anyway, check out the deck!

Evokeswagon.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Evokeswagon. Hamletback Goliath is a big fan of Lorwyn creatures with Evoke and thus is the theme of this deck. Packed with cards like Briarhorn, Cloudthresher, Primal Forcemage and other fun cards, Hamletback Goliath with get really large really quick. To help cast the Goliath faster Chris Millar choose cards like Soulbright Flamekin and Sakura-Tribe Elder to ramp up his mana-base quickly. Check it out. If anything, you find this to be a start to your own Evoke deck.

Doran's Bridge Rules.

Deck of the Day - Monday, October 22, 2007

Doran's Bridge Rules. It only makes sense to feature decks using Lorwyn Cards this week in light of the Lorwyn Theme Week in progress. And thus, I bring to you the first deck of the week.  It features Doran, the Siege Tower in combincation with Ensnaring Bridge.  Interested?  Check it out!

Grinball.

Deck of the Day - Friday, October 19, 2007

Grinball. Ah... another new deck from the recent deck database update. Grinball is a deck utilizing Grinning Ignus and Centaur Omenreader to generate large amounts of mana and high storm counts. Use cards like Empty the Warrens or Molten Disaster to make use of this mana.  How did you like this week's featured decks?  Remember you can discuss them here.

Haakon Y.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, October 18, 2007

Haakon Y. These new Shapeshifters from Lorwyn with the Changeling ability have some fun interactions. Particularly with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge. This deck is all about an infinite storm count with a grapeshot to finish off your opponent. Interested in how it works? Click the link. This is one of the new decks from the recent deck database update.

Birds of A.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, October 17, 2007

Birds of A. As the name suggests, this deck is a tribal deck of Birds.  Also as the name suggests, this deck uses cards that start with A (not counting basic lands).  What the name doesn't suggest is that it is a Pauper deck.  Curious?  Check it out.  This is one of the decks from MDV"s most recent deck database update.

Knighty Night.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, October 16, 2007

Knighty Night. Not only is this a Knight-like theme deck, it's a theme deck too. All of the nonland cards rhyme with each other. Not only are there knights and rhyming going on, there are several combos. Most of which revolve around "Blanket of Night". You'll just have to check this out yourself.

CoP Aggro.

Deck of the Day - Monday, October 15, 2007

CoP Aggro. I was perusing the WotC forums the other day and happened upon this deck. Created by Team Zephyr, it uses Circle of Protections in an aggro fashion. While I would consider it a control type deck with all of the damage prevention, they coupled cards like Faith Healer, Phantatog and Balduvian Shaman for an interesting deck that I would to test out. Check it out -- see if it is up your alley.

Yes You Kanzashi.

Deck of the Day - Friday, October 12, 2007

Yes You Kanzushi. If you can't tell from the title, which is a crafty title, this deck means to break Ornate Kanzashi. Lots of Kami block decks this week in the deck feature. Anyway, the deck has access to all five colors and thus has a better chance to play whatever card you remove from your opponents library. Full of Talismen(mans?), Ingots and dual-colored lands, here's to hoping your opponent is playing good cards in his or her deck...

Goblin Droppings.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, October 11, 2007

Goblin Droppings. This is a Jay Moldenhauer-Salazar deck creation back from when he did House of Cards on www.wizards.com. In this deck he attempts to abuse Airdrop Condor from Onslaught block in a deck full of goblins.  Did he succeed?  You'll just have to check it out.

Oni Potent.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Oni Potent. Ogres and Demons go well together, at least in the Kamigawa block they did. This budget oriented deck attempts merge the two tribes together in a aggro deck full of beats and creature hate. Did I mention this is a LITE deck?

Lockness.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Lockness. The Kamigawa block attempted to bring back some reincarnations of pieces from old Stasis decks in the form of Orb of Dreams and Hokori, Dust Drinker. Unfortunately, they were nothing compared to the original but the deck still makes a nice control, almost pseudo lockdown, deck.

Blood Gulch.

Deck of the Day - Monday, October 8, 2007

Blood Gulch. Who would have thought red could make a good mill deck?  While this deck isn't purely red, some of its mill cards are.  The red mill cards include Dragon Mage and Book Burning. Anarchist helps to recur the Book Burning and other blue mill cards.  The deck also features a suite of burn cards to keep your opponent on edge throughout the match.

Legion Land Loss.

Deck of the Day - Friday, October 5, 2007

Legion Land Loss. If you haven't yet seen the pattern from this week's featured decks of the days, this week's theme was land destruction decks. Today's deck is a well know green LD deck called Legion Land Loss. Packed with efficient creatures and cards like Creeping Nold, Thermokarst and Winter's Grasp, this green deck is as good as it is cruel. Check it out!

Thunder Cats.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, October 4, 2007

Thunder Cats. ThunderCats is what Brian Kibler refers to as a FOIL deck -- or a metagame deck. This Land Destruction varient fared well against other decks of its time considering how mana hungry they were. Check it out. This deck came about during the Masques-Invasion era.

Sinkhole.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Sinkhole. This is one of my earlier decks, modified in the database to reflect four Sinkhole cards -- I only own one.  This is a mean mono-black land destruction deck that features cards like Sinkhole, Ice Quake and Rain of Tears in addition to Iron Maiden and Worms of the Earth.  The end result is a cruel black deck that your opponents' will fear.

Snatch Steal.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Snatch Steal. Who ever thought a mono-blue land destruction deck could be so potent. With cards like Annex, Confiscate, Copy Enchantment, Dream Leash and Tidespout Tyrant, this blue LD deck packs a punch. Designed by our own Chris Newton, aka Tynion, this deck is a must try if you like blue and LD.

Not Quite Armageddon.

Deck of the Day - Monday, October 1, 2007

Not Quite Armageddon. A white and red land destruction deck, now that's interesting. What even more interesting is that this deck made Top8 at an Ontario Provincials with more LD spells than land. Be sure to check it out -- it even includes Ark of Blight in the decklist!

September 2007 --  in reverse order. Discuss Here

Droverdrive.

Deck of the Day - Friday, September 28, 2007

Droverdrive. If you like fatties and drovers, this deck is for you.  It's chock full of six-plus casting cost creatures and Krosan Drover.  The Drover reduces the mana cost of creatures with cmc (converted mana cost) of six or more by two - thus making a six cmc creature cost only four.  That's spiffy and this deck is all about that interaction.

Lady and the Trampler.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, September 27, 2007

Lady and the Trampler. This is a relatively cheap deck to make with only two rares in it: 1 Myr Matrix and 1 Darksteel Colossus. The deck birthset is Mirrodin as it is chock full of Myr. To help out in mana production, as if there wasn't enough there are Urza's Lands and Cloudposts. Let's not forget the Fireballs...

Icky.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Icky. This anti-black deck features both black and white cards. One of the combos in this deck includes Infected Vermin and Strength of Isolation. By giving your weak pestilence-like creature protection from black, it can't hurt itself and die from its own ability. Other cards that round out this deck include Duress, Vindicate and Plague Spitter.

Uktabi's Forge.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Uktabi's Forge. While this is listed in the deck database as a combo deck, it is actually a land destruction (LD) deck.  The combo involves uses Thran Forge, Uktabi Orangutans and Stampeding Wildebeests to destroy a land a turn.  Kind of a drawn out combo, but it's a little more fun and exciting than a normal LD deck.

Garv.dec.

Deck of the Day - Monday, September 24, 2007

Garv.dec. This is a former Type One deck. Of course, perhaps it is a current Type One deck too but I don't know that because I need help in that portion of deck strategy. If you want to help, please send me an email. You can assist in providing Type One decks that the MDV Database should have, update deck listings or update information about type one decks currently in the database. For instance, this deck doesn't have an author noted or a deck description. I can tell you it is an aggro style deck with efficient early drops and other tricks that make it a threat against other Type One decks. Cards like Kird Ape, Troll Ascetic and Berserk are all good examples of its strategy.

Waiting in Line.

Deck of the Day - Friday, September 21, 2007

Waiting in Line. Ah! Three colors decks. Gotta love 'em! If you haven't noticed, this week's decks of the days all had the same color combination in common. I'm not trying to copy what www.wizards.com is doing -- I just thought it would be fun to have theme weeks for deck of the day. In the meantime, this deck is centered around Hold the Line. But how it is -- you'll just have to click on the link to find out!

Dawn of the Worms.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, September 20, 2007

Dawn of the Worms. Vermiculous is affectionly called Worm-boy by MaGo and thus he built a deck around it. However, this deck how a fun little combo involving a recursion white card from the Mirrodin Block. Remember which card? If not, I'll tell you -- It's Second Sunrise. Be sure to check this deck out!

The Lich Deck.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, September 19, 2007

The Lich Deck. If you've never seen a "Lich" deck, you might want to check it out. Not because it is something completely new that no one has ever seen, but because it combos the card with Transcendence. That's good fun if you ask me.

Desolation.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Desolation. Control Apocalypse style.  This Inquest engineered deck includes four copies of Desolution Angel, some Desolation Giants and a playset of Vindicates.  No wonder this deck is titled Desolation.  Also included in the decklist are great cards like Orim's Chant, Death's Grasp and Phyrexian Arena.  If only Apocalypse had access to the dual lands of Ravnica block...

Cocoa Pebbles.

Deck of the Day - Monday, September 17, 2007

Cocoa Pebbles. This is one of the many combo decks named after cereals (i.e. Fruity Pebbles, Wheaties, Trix, etc). This deck uses Goblin Bombardment, Enduring Renewal and Shield Sphere to do large amounts of damage. The difference between this deck and Fruity Pebbles is the inclusion of Necropotence.

Vampires and Moons.

Deck of the Day - Friday, September 14, 2007

Vampires and Moons. If you like traditional tribal decks, and vampires, you'll like this deck. This deck uses a good range of Vampires with cards like Vampiric Feast, Steal Strength, Drain Life and Bad Moon. The keep a lower mana curve considering all vampires are a bit expensive, the creator uses the thematic Grimclaw Bats and Vampire Bats.

Rats without Honor.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, September 13, 2007

Rats without Honor. If the name didn't give it away, this is a tribal Rat deck full of little black furry creatures and some Aether Vials. Did I mention this is also a LITE deck?

Mutilator.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Mutilator. If you haven't heard, Inquest Magazine is no more. The September 2007 issue, #150, is the last issue for the magazine. I, for one, will miss the magazine as I've had a subscription to it for a LONG time. In the meantime, this is a deck I found in Inquest that uses Mutilate with a slew of other efficient black creatures from the time -- i.e. this is MBC(Mono-Black-Control).

Hitman's Scorpion.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Hitman's Scorpion. "Named after the character in Mortal Kombat, this is a simple, effective, fast, and expensive deck, this one revolves around the combo of Norritt/Nettling Imp, Vampires, and Sorceress Queen with a side dish of Royal Assassin and Sadistic Glee. It usually has a good threat out by turn 3 and often quicker."  Note that I am quoting the unknown deck creator.

Corrupter.

Deck of the Day - Monday, September 10, 2007

Corrupter. This deck is an almost creatureless deck featuring lots of black control spells and the Mirari. Combining the Mirari with cards like Duress, Corrupt, Mutilate and Chainer's Edict can make for an angry opponent.  The Cabal Coffers just make it that much easier to pull it all off.

Nagle's Dragons.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, August 16, 2007

Nagle's Dragons. Kenneth Nagle wrote an article for www.wizards.com talking about different deckbuilding strategies.  Not only is this a mid-range deck, but it's also a Tribal Dragon deck.  It uses a moderate amount of mana acceleration in the forum of Mind Stone and Thran Dynamo to pump out large dragons.  Be sure and check it out!

FIVE - A Deck.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, August 14, 2007

FIVE - A Deck. In honor of MDV's unofficial birthday this month, where it turned five, I figured I would feature a deck that somehow tied in with the 5 years MDV has been around.  This was the best I could do.  This deck is a theme deck that uses all one word card names in a WUBRG decklist.  It's quite ingenious for the theme of it.  I challenge you to make a similar deck!

Splice and Dice.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, August 9, 2007

Splice and Dice. Izzet players rejoice! Today's deck of the day combined blue and red to make an infinite combo using Lava Spike and Izzet Guildmage. Be sure and read the description of the deck after the deck box as it will explain the combo in full. Thanks, Death_By_Beebles!

We're a Band!

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, August 7, 2007

We're a Band! Banding is probably one of the most confusing mechanics in all of Magic design.  And if you like to be confused while playing a deck, or at the very least confusing your opponent(s), try this deck out.  It's a theme deck chock full of Banding creatures.

Stuff This.

Deck of the Day - Monday, August 6, 2007

Stuff This. A few months back, actually almost a year ago, I wrote an article about Stuffy Doll.  The first deck I featured was called Stuff This which included combo-licious card Pariah with Stuff Doll as a sure means to kill an opponent.  If this deck doesn't light your fire, keep scrolling down as you'll find several other decks using Stuffy Doll too.

Bloody Return.

Deck of the Day - Friday, August 3

Bloody Return. Given there's a new Raiding the Dollar Bins article for today, I thought it would be fitting to feature an old deck from the series.  This deck approaches Bloodbond March with a LITE perspective.  When I say LITE, I mean budget.  A low rare card with a high power ratio.  If that doesn't make sense, just check out the deck.  You are sure to like it.

Linessa's Hunt.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, August 1, 2007

Linessa's Hunt. The Legends with Grandeur are awesome and become even more awesome when you have several of them in your hand.  This deck uses Pack Hunt to make that happen more often and even a mysterious Unhinged card to double the possible number of Legends with Grandeur.  The Grandeur or choice in this deck is Linessa.

Indestructible March.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Indestructible March. Apologies on the lack of Deck of the Day updates lately - things have been chaotic for me.  In the meantime, today I have a deck for you.  This particiular deck is all about dropping indestructible artifacts from the Mirrodin block and then following it up with March of the Machines.  This deck's creator uses Wrath of God and Culling Scales to not only buy you time in setting up your army, but to also combo with your indestructible creatures.

A Man Among Thrulls.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, July 25, 2007

A Man Among Thrulls. If you like Thrulls, this deck is for you.  It takes an old-school approach to a Thrull tribal deck with cards like Ebon Praetor, Armor Thrull and Blood Pet. Add in a little Oath of Ghouls, Grave Pact and Cabal Therapy and you get some excitement. And to round out the deck, it's legendary centerpiece is none other than Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. Does your thrull deck look like this?

Uncle Fester's Dreamy Deck.

Deck of the Day - Monday, July 23, 2007

Uncle Fester's Dreamy Deck. This combo deck uses Underworld Dreams and Teferi's Puzzlebox to lock in some serious damage every turn. While there's a slew of discard cards incuding Hypnotic Specter and Blackmail, Howling Mine should keep the hands full. Megrim seals the deal. Check the deck out!

Top Seeded.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, July 19, 2007

Top Seeded. Gruul Goodness can be found in this deck with token generators, Ulasht, the Hate Seed and Doubling Season. What really makes the tick though is Cloudstone Curio. Curious? Check it out.

Mighty Maniac.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, July 18, 2007

Mighty Maniac. Green-Red beatdown has never been more fun. This deck packs Mogg Fanatics, Mogg Maniacs, Rhox, Primal Boosts and Might of Oaks. A little burn, a lot of beatdown. Good times. What does your GR Beatdown deck look like?

Tequila.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, July 12, 2007

Tequila. Tokens are fun. 6/6 Wurm tokens are more fun. Trampling 7/7 Wurm Tokens are even better. This deck makes 'em thanks to cards like Crush of Wurms and Mirari. Mirari's Wake gives you the extra mana and Brawn gives them trample. Green with a splash of white apparently makes Tequilla. of course, the creator was obviously referring to the worm at the bottom of a bottle of Tequilla...

The Abyss for Beginners.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, July 11, 2007

The Abyss for Beginners. MDV has this little section in it's Deck Database that debuts multiplayer decks (MDV calls them GROUP decks). This decks packs a punch including cards like Syphon Mind, Abyssal Gatekeeper, Barter in Blood and other multiplayer gifted cards. If your a regular group player, bring this deck to the table. Just remember to make it your own.

Twofer.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Twofer. If you like blue-black control, you'll like this deck. Nekrataal, Stupor, Infernal Contract, Binding Grasp, Lobotmy... all in there. The centerpiece of the deck is really Forbidden Ritual, although I like the addition of Triskelion. Check it out -- use some old cards and modify it to be your own UB control deck.

Roshambo

Deck of the Day - Monday, July 9, 2007

Roshambo. This is a rather well-known Mercadian Masques block deck created by several people using Death Pit Offering and Natural Affinity. I would encourage you to check it out, substitute some of your own cards, and give the deck a spin.  It's quite fun.

Balls to the Walls.

Deck of the Day - Friday, July 6, 2007

Balls to the Wall. Assuming the rumored spoilers are true, walls are making a come back in Xth edition.  I guess it's time to break this type of deck out again.  Specifically, this deck casts a bunch of versatile and efficient walls and then lays a Rolling Stone enchantment.  The enchantment enables all of your walls to attack and suddenly you have a mean first-striking, flame bearing army your opponent's won't want to deal with.

Good Form 2005.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, July 5, 2007

Good Form 2005. When you mix Seething Song, Enduring Ideal and Form of the Dragon you're in Good Form 2005.  This innovative deck uses the aforementioned cards and cards like Zur's Weirding to put a lock on your opponent.  This deck used cards from Mirrodin Block, Ninth Edition and Kamigawa.

The American Way.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, July 4, 2007

The American Way. Takes the two decks from earlier this week, and build a similar deck using the same colors in Ravnica's block. You'd be using Boros, Izzet and Azorius. This deck does just that with cards like Azorius Herald, Court Hussar, Lightning Helix and Odds/Ends.

Star Spangled Slaughter.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, July 3, 2007

Star Spangled Slaughter. This deck is very similar to the Fire 'n Ice deck from yesterday. It involves a lot of red, white and blue cards that form an aggro, control deck appropriately named Star Spangled Slaughter. This version of the deck uses cards like Meddling Mage and Lightning Angel.

Fire 'n Ice.

Deck of the Day - Monday, July 2, 2007

Fire 'n Ice. As the title suggests, the deck includes the split card Fire/Ice. And Rakavolver, Prophetic Bolt, Suffocating Blast and Goblin Legionnaire. If you couldn't tell, it's a red-white-blue deck. Anyway, this is fun, burn, control, aggro deck from a few years ago. Feel free to check it out, update it with some Ravnica cards and go to town.

June 2007 --  in reverse order. Discuss Here

Well of Worship.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, June 28, 2007

Well of Worship. As the name implies, this deck uses Well of Lost Dreams, Words of Worship and lots of life gain. To top it off, the deck's creator included Ageless Entity and Fireshrieker for good times.

Sheep.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Sheep. Back before the days of Kamigawa block, before Azusa and before Curcible of Worlds, there was Ovinomancer. And then there was a card called Burgeoning. This deck attempts to use those two cards together, along with Manabond, to turn lots of creatures into sheep. If you want a fresh approach to Ovinomancer that's actually an old approach, check this deck out.

Shuffling Madness.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Shuffling Madness. If you like shuffling and cards that work well with other cards that make people shuffle their decks, this deck is for you. Of course, I'm not talking about Soldier of Fortune or the Probe... this deck uses cards from a fictional set of cards called Celixia. If you are interested in the cards you see, you might want to check out the visual spoiler (linked to on the deck page). Let me know what you think in the forums.

The Shambler.

Deck of the Day - Monday, June 25, 2007

The Shambler. Fungal Shambler, the centerpiece of today's deck of the day, feel victim to a FTK metagame. In other words, Flame-Tongue Kavu kept people from playing Fungal Shambler as often before the Shambler only had four toughness. However, if your casual group is FTK free, give this deck a chance.

Kill U With Myr.

Deck of the Day - Friday, June 22, 2007

Kill U With Myr. This are few decks in the MDV Deck Database that are themed around one artist.  However, this is one of them.  The theme?  Kev Walker art.  Obviously this excludes basic lands.  Anyway, this deck aims to with with cards like Vedalken Archmage, Upheavel and Glorious Anthem... along with a plethora of the common Myr from Mirrodin.  Have a fun Artist Theme Deck?  Post it in the forums!

Cadaverous Chaos.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, June 21, 2007

Cadaverous Chaos. Cadaverous Bloom - a card from Mirage block that works terribly well with Squandered Resources and Drain Life. This chaos (multiplayer) deck features all three of those cards along with Iron Maiden and Prosperity. Quick sidenote: In my opinion, Inquest is the best gamer Magazine out there (for English speaking people anyway). If you don't have a subscription to it, I would recommend it. There are always great decks, combos and articles pertaining to Magic... now if they only offered more to the casual player they would be perfect.

What's For Dinner?

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, June 20, 2007

What's For Dinner? It's a tribal ATOG deck!!! To enforce the atog tribe as a tribal deck, this deck's creator uses Coat of Arms, Cover of Darkness and Cryptic Gateway. Then you have six different atog creatures and what looks like a mess of lands. The end result -- a good time.

Intolerance.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Intolerance. Remember Mask of Intolerance from the Invasion block? Well, this deck tries to abuse that card with a slew of land changing cards and some artifact duplication. The rest of the deck uses card advantage and control in the form of Propaganda to keep your opponent's offenses at bay. Overall, this is a fun deck although considering how old it is I'm sure you can rebuild it using the same concept. Enjoy!

Generations.

Deck of the Day - Monday, June 18, 2007

Generations. If you like Saprolings, infinite mana, and/or infinite creatures -- you should like today's deck. The deck uses Fecundity, Elvish Farmer and a slew of Saproling generators to fuel the deck. Spellbook and Gaea's Blessing help to either keep your hand full or your library full. Sterling Grove helps to protect your enchantments. Overall, this is a fun deck and I would encourage you to check it out, rebuild it and have some fun with the concept.

GB All Common Control

Deck of the Day - Friday, June 15, 2007

GB All Common Control.  Pauper is a format using all commons to build decks.  This deck, by Chris Romeo of Star City Games, makes use of that format to build a green-black beatdown/control deck utilizing cards like Craw Wurm, Rend Flesh and Moss Kami.  I'm currently trying to beef up the Pauper and Peasant decks in MDV's Deck Database.  If you have a good one, post it in the casual deck forum noting [PAUPER] or [PEASANT] in the thread title.

Casual Doom.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, June 14, 2007

Casual Doom. Speaking of Bouncing Around, today's deck has some fun bounce cards like Turbulent Dreams and Sunken Hope. In combination with Megrim and Warped Devotion, this deck has quite a bit of bounce-discard-combo power. That and it's extremely casual and creature-less. Curious?  Just click on the deck icon!

Ace of Spades.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Ace of Spades. Today's deck is actually a theme deck.  What's the theme?  Anti-Black!  This deck is packed full of creatures with Protection from Black - everything from Llanowar Knight to Nantuko Blightcutter. The deck even has a play set of Basking Rootwalla for those discard mages. If your friends like to play black all of the time, give this deck a try -- with a few of your own tweaks, of course.

Power Struggle

Deck of the Day - Friday, June 8, 2007

Power Struggle. Reins of Power is a favorite of many blue mages from Stronghold and this deck combos it's switcheroo effect with Claws of Gix.  Mind you, there are much better ways to do the whole 'kill all of your opponent's creatures' with Reins of Power, but it's still a fun deck.

Instant Hulk.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, June 7, 2007

Instant Hulk.  It wasn't too long after the occurrence of Hulk-Flash that Flash got banned in a tournament format. With the right mix of cards, the Hulk-Flash combo can win during one's upkeep! Check out MZ's deck list in today's article and a brief description of the deck whether or not you are familiar with this combo deck.

Ringing the Bell.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Ringing the Bell. If you like Morph, you'll like this deck. Nate Heiss, the creator, fills the deck with Onslaught block morphing creatures and cards like Skirk Alarmist and Dream Chisel to enhance the theme. It also happens to be a LITE deck -- a deck known for it's ease on the pocketbook.

Ugly Beast.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, June 5, 2007

Ugly Beast. If you like Beast Tribal decks, you are sure to like this one. Chris Millar put together a band of beefy and evasive creatures including tribal friendly Canopy Crawler and Feral Throwback. This beast deck even has some mean grafters.

I Vex, Therefore I Am.

Deck of the Day - Friday, June 1, 2007

I Vex, Therefore I Am. If anything, I just like the name of this deck. Vexing Arcanix is one of the weird cards from Ice Age that was later reprinted in 8th Edition just to give us all a taste of interesting artifact-ness. This deck designer decided it would be fun to mess with people's heads using cards like Portent, Think Tank and Ransack. If you are going to playtest this deck out on some friends, bring some Advil along...

Sap Attack.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, May 31, 2007

Sap Attack. As the name would make you assume, this deck is all about Saprolings. Cards like Verdeloth, Nemata, Death Mutation and Sporogenesis are all in there. And given it's black-green, the creator had to include at least two Spiritmongers. Why don't you try updating this deck with all of the new Saproling Generators out there.  This deck is kind of old.

All Hail The Goblin King.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, May 30, 2007

All Hail The Goblin King. During the Onslaught Block and for quite some time after that, Goblins were a force to fear. However, Goblins' reign over metagames wasn't just post-Onslaught. For example, take a look at the featured deck. It uses Goblin King in conjunction with well known and older goblin cards for the win. The key piece? Mystic Compass.

Advocate This!

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Advocate This! There were cycles of cards in Judgment that gave you an effect in exchange for putting cards from an opponent's graveyard back into their hand. While the effects varied, I personally never preferred giving an opponent a card back. However, one ingenious deckbuilder decided to take advantage of keeping your opponent's hand full. Cards like Ebony Owl Netsuke, Viseling and Storm Seeker all like full hands. Check the deck out!

UB Slivers.

Deck of the Day - Monday, May 28, 2007

UB Slivers. Back before Slivers overran the Time Spiral block, and even apparently invaded the future (as seen on Time Shifted Slivers from Future Sight), there was wave two of Slivers in the Onslaught Block.  This particular deck uses those slivers with a combination of blue and black control spells to make for a challenging deck for an opponent to beat.

UB Slivers.

Deck of the Day - Friday, May 25, 2007

Zebra Hive.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, May 24, 2007

Zebra Hive. If you like the Zuberas from the Kamigawa Block, and you like Wireflies, and you like Krark's Thumb... you'll like this deck. I'll let you figure this one out -- however, know it is at least a tribal Zubera deck!

You Got Zurved!

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, May 23, 2007

You Got Zurved! MDV has this section of the deck database called Single Card Strategies, SCS for short.  A SCS deck is one that revolves around one card. In this deck's case, it rotates around Zur the Enchanter from Coldsnap, loaded with fun enchantments to pull out using Zur's ability.  Check it out, tweak it, make it your own and have fun playing it!

Illusionary.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Illusionary. Tribal Illusions, mono-blue style. This deck features cards like Imaginary Pet, Equilibrium, Brass Herald, Fleeting Image and a plethora of Mistform creatures from the Onslaught block. This deck is a few years old so I'm sure you can find plenty of cool new Illusions to update it for yourself. Krovikan Mist anyone?

World of Hurt.

Deck of the Day - Monday, May 21, 2007

World of Hurt. This is a blue-red combo-pain deck using cards like Citalde of Pain and Manabarbs together! This is also a deck submission from the forum turned into a deck in the MDV Deck Database by Neuromancer.

Seton.

Deck of the Day - Friday, May 18, 2007

Seton. As the deck title suggests, this deck makes use of Seton, Krosan Protector. What the title doesn't suggest that the deck is packed with flashback cards and token generators. It even has a playset of Catalyst Stone to facilitate the flashback themes in the deck. Overall, it's a fun mono-green beatdown deck.

Stop and Go.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, May 17, 2007

Stop and Go. A deck by Anthony Alongi -- he mixed cards like Propsperity and Indentured Djinn with cards like Standstill. One part of the deck wants to keep spells a playin' while the other part wants to keep them at bay. (Thus the Stop and Go deck title). Together, they make for a fun deck.

The Abyss for Beginners.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, May 16, 2007

The Abyss for Beginners. MDV has this little section in it's Deck Database that debuts multiplayer decks (MDV calls them GROUP decks). This deck is a new entry for that section of the database including cards like Syphon Mind, Abyssal Gatekeeper, Barter in Blood and other multiplayer gifted cards. If your a regular group player, bring this deck to the table. Just remember to make it your own.

Time Sifting

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Time Sifting. Death_By_Beebles describes this deck as strange, fun and not necessarily difficult to play. The deck attempts to break Timesifter with cards like Sensei's Diving Top and a plethora of high casting cost cards. All of this is done in a LITE deck way -- that is the deck is relatively cheap to get the pieces for and the rare is worth one dollar.

Petroglyphing.

Deck of the Day - Monday, May 14, 2007

Petroglyphing. Here's a nice new deck for your perusal straight from the latest batch of deck database updates.  This deck, by Ben Bleiweiss @ SCG, using a bunch of vanilla creatures with Muraganda Petroglyphs for a mean beatdown deck.  Check it out -- make it your own -- and enjoy the game!

Darkstaff.

Deck of the Day - Friday, May 11, 2007

Darkstaff. Ah, a fun deck that uses Proteus Staff without the Goblin Charbelcher. Ultimately, the one card you are fetching in this deck is Darksteel Colossus. Along the way you have Wrath of God, Mana Leak and Aether Spellbomb to ensure the success of the Colossus.

Watch Your Step.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, May 10, 2007

Watch Your Step. Here's a deck that was originally found in the Casual Deck section in the MDV forums that became a deck in the MDV Deck Database. Neuromancer, the deck's creator, uses Powerstone Minefield the delay an opponent's game and then uses Serra Angel to finish them off.

Impwrath.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Impwrath. Tribal Imps are fun -- especially with the Deluge-Maddening Imp combo. Deluge taps all non-flying creatures. Maddening Imp makes them attack, and if they don't -- they die. Good times.

18 Blue Counters.

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, May 8, 2007

18 Blue Counters. If you like the Arcbound creatures from Darksteel, you are sure to like this deck. Packed with seven different Arcbounds, Gemini Engine and Sage of Lat-Nam, this deck will prove to be fun and aggravating for your opponent. Ironically enough, there isn't actually a counterspell in the deck and you would think from the title.

Ivy League.

Deck of the Day - Monday, May 7, 2007

Ivy League. Ivy League is one of my personal favorites. At it's core is a beatdown deck with cards like Albino Troll, Rancor and Thorn Elemental. However, with cards like Heart Warden, Scryb Sprites, Scent of Ivy and Pattern of Rebirth, you have a little more speed and force. Of course, Pattern combos with Heart Warden nicely. Check it out!

Wheeled Warriors.

Deck of the Day - Friday, May 4, 2007

Wheeled Warriors. Barbed Shocker causes a "Wheel of Fate" effect when it deals damage to an opponent. This decks pairs up the insect with a Viridian Longbow. Coupled with cards like Wheel of Fate and Dragon Mage you have a not-so-typical MILL deck.

Chaodeath.

Deck of the Day - Thursday, May 3, 2007

Chaodeath. Chaodeath is a deck that is currently in the works, but has potential to be added to the database, thus the [DBM] in the thread title. It's a PAUPER deck, which means it is all commons. Originally the deck used Anarchist and Death Duets for some mean common recursion.

Tamanoan Meditation Technique

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, May 2, 2007

Tamanoan Meditation Technique. Tamanoa was one of those cards that made me go 'OOOOOH!' when I first saw it.  Even better is that I sooned realized it's combo potential with cards like Searing Meditation.  Brian David-Marshall built this deck and posted it on www.wizards.com before Coldsnap's release on Magic Online.

So You Hate Me

Deck of the Day - Monday, April 30, 2007

So You Hate Me. There are fun combos and then there are mean combos. If you plan on making this deck, I would encourage you to only play it once or twice against any opponent. Once you've made your rounds, dismantle it or you may lose friends. The deck uses the Splinter - Myr Landshaper combo to eradicate your opponent's lands.

Angelgeddon

Deck of the Day - Friday, April 27, 2007

Angelgeddon. The owner of CabalCity.com, a beautiful site that you all should check out at least once, put this deck together featuring lots of angels and cards like Glory and Wrath of God. Angels included in the decklist are Desolation Angel, Serra Angel, Voice of All, Akroma (the original) and Sustainer of the Realm.

Yearn to Urn

Deck of the Day - Thursday, April 26, 2007

Yearn to Urn.  Travel back in time two years to Death_By_Beebles's first article ever, titled Raiding the Dollar Bins.  The deck uses Blinkmoth Urn with a LOT of artifacts (including Myr Matrix).  In effect, the Urn will produce an exorbitant amount of mana and you will be able to cast a really big Fireball.  The deck is solid and the cost to make it is CHEAP.  You can check out his other Raiding the Dollar Bins here.

Oatmeal

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Oatmeal. This deck was pulled from a website called magicsingles.com - which appears not to exist anymore.  I searched and searched the web archives and could not find a deck description for this one.  It does however use the interaction of Riptide Mangler, Nantuko Husk and Caller of the Claw in a combo-like fashion.  However, Dirge of Dread cards as a means of evasion for the army/big Mangler is weak.  Can you make this Oatmeal better?  Post it in the casual deck forum!

Hammer Time

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Hammer Time. Who doesn't love infinite combo decks? This particular deck uses Spellweaver Helix, Time Stretch and Hammer of Bogardan to reach infinite turns and kill with lots of burn. Sounds like fun to me. Note that if you see any combos on the infinite combo page without a deck link to submit one in the forum. Link to the combo page and note in the thread title "INFINITE COMBO PAGE DECK - [name]" that way I'll notice it faster.

Life Crusher Redux

Deck of the Day - Monday, April 23, 2007

Life Crusher Redux. Sometimes featured decks aren't actually part of the deck database of MDV!  This particular deck was subimtted in the MDV forums for review and comment.  It is a 'redux' version of the typical Life Crusher deck known abroad.  Have comments about it?  Post it in the forum!

Kill U With Myr

Deck of the Day - Friday, April 20, 2007

Kill U With Myr. MDV has a small collection of Artist Theme decks, this being one of them. Note: You can find them in the "THEME" portion of the deck database. ALL of the non-land cards in the deck are illustrated by Kev Walker (one of my artist favorites).  Plus, it's a tribal Myr deck!

Zirilan's Kiln

Deck of the Day - Thursday, April 19, 2007

Zirilan's Kiln. TRIBAL decks are fantastic.  Decks with dragons are fantastic.  Tribal Dragon are even better.  This tribal deck, by Mark Gottlieb, uses various dragons with Zirilan the Claw.  I think with the many dragons in Time Spiral including Torax Bladewing from Future Sight, this deck is due for an update by you!

GB All Common Control

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, April 18, 2007

GB All Common Control.  Pauper is a format using all commons to build decks.  This deck, by Chris Romeo of Star City Games, makes use of that format to build a green-black beatdown/control deck utilizing cards like Craw Wurm, Rend Flesh and Moss Kami.  I'm currently trying to beef up the Pauper and Peasant decks in MDV's Deck Database.  If you have a good one, post it in the casual deck forum noting [PAUPER] or [PEASANT] in the thread title.

Need Help

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Need Help. Deck Names often play off of a certain card in the deck.  In this case, it's Time of Need.  Being a Kamigawa era deck, it had plenty of beefy Legends to pull out when in need.  Including the legendary dragons.

Roshambo

Deck of the Day - Monday, April 16, 2007

Roshambo. This is a rather well-known Mercadian Masques block deck created by several people using Death Pit Offering and Natural Affinity. I would encourage you to check it out, substitute some of your own cards, and give the deck a spin.  It's quite fun.

Kithkin Weaponry

Deck of the Day - Friday, April 13, 2007

Kithkin Weaponry. Sometimes fun ideas don't work out as well as you would like.  This deck attempted to make full use of Amrou Kithkin with Thran Weaponry and Intrepid Hero.  While the deck should work like a Weenie deck with some added synergies, it just didn't play as well as expected.  Can you make this deck better while staying true to the name?

The Cheese Stands Alone

Deck of the Day - Thursday, April 12 2007

The Cheese Stands Alone.  Given the fact that I posted the Unglued Visual Spolier, it's only appropriate that I feature a deck using an Unglued Card.  This particular deck, as if you didn't guess it, features the ALT-WIN card The Cheese Stands Alone... Using cards like Renounce and Tireless Tribe, this deck can actually win!

Yawgmoth's Day Off.

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Yawgmoth's Day Off. What happens when Yawgmoth, most likely the greatest villain of MTG, takes a day off?  You get a demonic theme deck.  While this deck is older and could use some fine tuning, it's a great start.  That and I had to feature a Villain-ish deck given today's article.

Zombo Combo

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, April 10, 2007

Zombo Combo. The House of Cards over on wizards.com has long been a provider of decks for the MDV Deck Database.  This particular deck, back from when Jay Moldenhauer-Salazar ran the House, uses Rotlung Reanimator with Artificial Evolution.  With a little Cabal Archon and Nantuko Husk, you've got yourself a mean deck.

Afterwhile Crocodile

Deck of the Day - Monday, April 9, 2007

Afterwhile Crocodile. Tribal decks are fun. In fact, MDV has the best selection of Tribal decks on the net. This particular deck, by Abe Sargent @ SCG, is all about Crocodiles!  Not Gators mind you, but Crocs.  If you have some Crocodiles laying around, give this deck a try.

Oath Bolt

Deck of the Day - Friday, April 6, 2007

Oath Bolt. A little secret: before Streetz started Magic Deck Vortex, he posted 100's of decks on MTGFanatic.  There he met several people including Phillip Morris who was an excellent deck designer.  This deck, which uses Blood Oath and Sunder, was put together with the help of Mr. Morris.

Blanket of Algae

Deck of the Day - Thursday, April 5, 2007

Blanket of Algae. Eric Son Huynh has a website that has been around the net for a LONG time.  So long that he was referenced in the "The Magic the Gathering Internet Guide" as in the top 150 sites for Magic back then.  This is one of the many unique and fun decks from his lists.  Guess what cards it uses.

Tom's Temper

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Tom's Temper. One of the highlights of Magic Deck Vortex in the beginnnig was the monthly contest.  Temper Temper, the second contest on MDV, made contestants try out Temper (white uncommon from Tempest).  This deck, using cards like Spikes, Magmasaur and Savage Firecat, placed fourth.

Black-skelion

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, April 3, 2007

Black-skelion. There are some of us that are sadistic about Triskelion.  Streetz owns about 40 of them.  It's especially cool to combine Triskelion with Sadistic Glee in one deck, as today's features deck shows.  Give it a try, and remember to stay Mephidross free.

Keef/Agent 666

Deck of the Day - Monday, April 2, 2007

Keef/Agent 666. Everyone wants to break cards that don't sway in your favor.  One such card is Sleeper Agent from Urza's Block.  For one mana, you give your opponent a 3/3 creature that sucks 2 life each turn.  Cards like Light of Day, Moat, Cemetery Gate and Shackles are all great ways...

About MDV's Deck of the Day
Deck of the Day is a new feature where you get to see a (maybe) random deck from the vast database of decks on Magic Deck Vortex.  Sometimes you'll find some insightful piece of information about the deck.  Sometimes it will just be a glimpse of a deck you never knew existed.  ~Streetz~

Empress Oath

Deck of the Day - Friday, March 30, 2007

Empress Oath. A long, long time ago, Streetz hosted a deck clinic here on MDV.  The original user submitted a deck using Planar Birth - Oath of Druids and Jolrael, Empress of Beasts.  After some extensive revisions and tweaks, Empress Oath was the final deck.  If these three cards spark your fancy, check it out!

Power Struggle

Deck of the Day - Thursday, March 29, 2007

Power Struggle. Reins of Power is a favorite of many blue mages from Stronghold and this deck combos it's switcheroo effect with Claws of Gix.  Mind you, there are much better ways to do the whole 'kill all of your opponent's creatures' with Reins of Power, but it's still a fun deck.

ZZzzz

Deck of the Day - Wednesday, March 28, 2007

There are many shadow decks in the MDV Deck Database, except this is the only user submitted shadow deck.  The creator, appropriately named Dauthi Ghoul, teamed up some deadly shadow creatures of old with Twisted Experiment and Unholy Strength.  Plus it's a LITE deck.

Pango Express

Deck of the Day - Tuesday, March 27, 2007

Pango Express, today's deck of the day, was one of the first decks added to the MDV Deck Database that the webmaster didn't build.  When MDV first started, more than 80% of the decks were all by the webmaster. This deck features Limited Resources with Pangosaur and was built quite some time ago.  Go ahead and update it yourself!

NOTE: This is first Deck of the Day ever on MDV.
