MDV Deckbuilding Contests on hold...
4/17/05.  The contests on Magic Deck Vortex are on hold until further notice simply because there hasn't been enough time to devote to reviewing the decks submitted.  I do plan on posting the results in the future, but for now, please understand.  If you have some serious concerns about this, please email me or discuss it in the forums.  Thanks as always for visiting MDV.  ~John Streetz~
Oct. 2003 - Level-Headed-Ness (scored)
10/1/03.  This contest was all about abusing Leveler.  The scores were posted on 12/1/03... but I never made much of it nor did I ever announce it.   You can see the top three decks, rules, and a brief commentary.. very brief.  ~John Streetz~
Sep. 2003 - Myr Myr (judged)
10/12/03.  Myr, Myr, given it's brief time frame to submit a deck since the InViSc deck building contest didn't work out, was a complete success.  There were over 20 entries in just two weeks and the quality of decks is amazing.  As usual, there were a number of decks that didn't fit within the guidelines or didn't follow the basic Theme, Legend, 60 cards, Name and description requirements.. but that's normal.  There were a number of cool combos and many entries were very well thought out.
Aug. 2003 - The Legacy of Lat-Nam (judged)
9/18/03.  Why not after Mirrodin?  That is, why didn't I have this contest after MIRRODIN was revealed?  I mean, with all the artifacts in this Fall's set, what was I thinking?  I guess I didn't have any clue.  As far as the contest goes, there were 13 entries, three of which I almost lost including the first place one... but anyway, congratulations to Ruud for scoring first place with 23.1 points.  His deck was, by far, the most original deck I found of the thirteen and he even gives a good description of how the Sage of Lat-Nam could be better than Archivist (quoted...
July 2003 - Double Dragon (judged)
8/10/03.  This contest was by far the most popular contest yet.  I would gander that a large portion of the casual community has a liking or great affinity for Dragons.   I am personally a big fan of dragon cards like Nalathni Dragon, Teeka's Dragon and good old Shivan Dragon.  As far as the contest goes, I received 23 entries and two additional entries by myself.  Six of the total 25 were mono-colored, 13 were dual-colored, and 6 were three or more colors.  Of all of the color combinations, Black-Red seemed the most popular (all using Bladewing the Risen) with 8 decks total...
June 2003 - With Spirit (scored)
6/2/03. Last months contest was all about creating a DECKING (MILL-style) deck.  This month I am going to propose a themed contest.  Make your deck a SPIRIT theme deck.  Whether it is the name SPIRIT or a creature type SPIRIT, make it a theme deck.  You have plenty of options available to you as there are fifty-two different creatures with the Class "SPIRIT".  Below is also a list of cards that have something to do with SPIRITS which you must use in your deck.   Note: This contest was scored without a commentary.  Some of the decks are floating around in the deck database.  ~Streetz~
May 2003 - Mill Thrill (scored)
5/1/03. May's Deck Building Contest revolves around one of my favorite deck types, MILL/LIBRARY DEPLETION.  For the contest, you must build a deck that 'mills' or decks your opponent before you.  This should be its major win condition.  You are free to reference any of the decks listed in that the deck listing mentioned above to make you own, but please try to be original.  Follow the guidelines below when submitting your entry and remember, if you do not meet one or more of the requirements, your deck will be subject to point penalities.    Note: This was scored.
April 2003 - Mutant Mayhem
4/1/05.
April's deck building contest revolves around the new Mutant cards from Legions.  In the picture for the contest you see Polumorph at the top, Flamewave Invoker in the middle and Goblin Mutant at the bottom.  Note: This contest was scored without a commentary.
Dec.2002 - Temper, Temper (scored)
12/1/02.
December's deck building contest revolves around one card, Temper (from Stronghold).  You can go at this card from any angle, just as long as you follow the guidelines below.  This contest was scored without a commentary.
Oct. 2002 - Wizardry 2002 (judged)
12/1/02.  All entries for the WIZARDRY 2002 deck building contest have been reviewed and you should know the top two decks were less than a point away from each other (0.2 to be exact).  The winner is  Emerald Knight with his deck called Emerald Wizardry.  The contest was difficult to judge as there are many ways to facilitate the wizards given control, control and control.  Unfortunately there were only 5 total entries so I will take this opportunity to post all five.  I think for future contests I will post the top five to give you the reader the opportunity to see what I had to pick from.  The scores all ranged from 21/25 to 16/25.  The last place deck scored so low because of major penalties.
Sep. 2002 - Three Sets, One Deck.
10/1/02.
Congratulations to Scott Kelly who won September's Deck Creation Contest.  There were a total of 10 entries and his proved the most cohesive and playable.  I honestly thought  the winning entry would be a plain and simple beatdown deck using Silvos and other cards like Simian Grunts and Albino Troll.  I was proven wrong.  Note: The Saproling Burst shown to the left is for display only.  This card actually is not in the deck that won (shown below)
