Feb's
"Bazaar Trading 101" results are in! Congrats to...
3/14/10 - This was by far one of the most fun
contests for me to grade. Many of the almost twenty entries were
chock full of good card choices, great ideas and fun synergies.
The winner of the contest is Harizl with his deck, "My Pet Monster."
Here's the decklist:
Did it win because I have an love for land
desctruction decks? Or did it win because its full of combos and
two excellent trader fodder cards: Rust Elemental and Primordial Ooze?
You decide that. In the meantime, the scores can be found
here. The original deck submissions can be found
here. Some of the decks will be added to the MDV Deck
Database. Thank you to everyone that participated in the contest.

2010 Deckbuilding Contest: Bazaar Trading 101.
2/7/10 - As an introduction into becoming the
best Bazaar Trader ever, I will start your schooling by giving you a few
examples of some cards you might want to give your opponent. Remember
that you can donate an artifact, a creature or a land you control.
Notice that this effect "targets" so don't try to donate one of your
shrouded permanents. Does anyone else find it strange that Trading
doesn't involve Trading at all? Bazaar Trading should really be called
Bazaar Giving. However, I digress...
Objective: Design a 60 card, no sideboard, deck centered around 4 copies
of Bazaar Trader. The deck type doesn't matter. What matters is that you
make this the coolest deck possible while following the rules of the
contest. Think originality, cool combos, casual perspective. Alternative
formats are OK. No sideboards. Deadline: Your deck must be posted
in this thread with all of the requirements filled by the end of the day
on 2/26/10(that's a Friday). You may edit your entry up until that
point. ~Streetz~

Contest: Worldslaying 102!
10/19/09 - I will recap some of the things
from Worldslaying 101, but in the meantime, welcome to Worldslaying 102!
Here you will be using the knowledge you learned in 101 to build a
unique and powerfully fun deck centered around one card: Worldslayer.
This Mirrodin rare is capable of making everything GO BOOM! You must
include four copies of the card in your deck, your deck must be 60
cards, have two different legendary cards and it must be submitted with

How
Deep Is The Ocean Deckbuilding Contest!
9/9/09 - I was listening to one of my favorite
barbershop songs recently and thought to myself, why isn’t there a deck
in the MDV deck database with that title? And thus is the point of this
contest. Design and build a deck intended to be named “How Deep is the
Ocean?” Interesting? I think so. You could go with the ‘fish’ theme or
go another direction relying heavily on blue mana or enchantments
involving water, the ocean or deep-ness. How you build this deck is
completely up to you. Think outside of the box! And Good luck! ~Streetz~

Almost Triskelion Deckbuilding Contest Scores Posted!
8/2/09 - Several hours later, I have finished
reviewing all of the decks. Overall I am really happy about the turn out
for this contest with 28 entries (several more than last month) and a
lot of solidly built decks. There was a nice selection of decks
including Combo, Beatdown, Tribal, Mill and even a Theme deck (which I'm
a sucker for).
One thing that I don't care for in these contests but that showed up
several times is 'infinite combo' syndrome. Does an infinite combo make
the deck any more fun to play against? Does it make it any better? Not
in my eyes. Unless, of course, you use a unique combo I've never seem
before and the rest of the deck does well without the infinite combo.
Keep reading to see the scores as well as the top five
deck lists! Thank you to everyone who participated. The next
contest will be posted very soon. ~Streetz~

7/16/09 - He's close but no cigar... The
objective of this contest is to design a 60 card, no sideboard, deck

possible while following the rules of the contest. Whether its
originality or combos or whatever. Note: The winner of the contest will
receive four copies of Deathbringer Thoctar.
If you didn't check out the deck from last month's
contest, I would highly encourage you to do so. Check out the
other blurb on the main page about the winner from Be Resourceful, last

will be mailed to the winner of this contest.

Contest: Class-Wars!
1/25/08 - About two years ago Streetz ran a
class-based contest
designed to use a limited pool of Tribal based around the D&D style
classes. I speak of this only because Morningtide brings us to an
interesting crossroad; while it focuses heavily on the tribal lines
created by Lorwyn, it also is the first set to really ever focus on the
class aspect of creatures. As a result you're seeing numerous Faerie
Rogues, Goblin Warriors, and others all designed along the tribal lines
created by Lorwyn and the class lines being defined in Morningtide.
Which brings me to the contest... ~Cashew~

Must Have Theme Contest
Wrap-up!
8/4/06 - Some
time ago, back in 2003, I posted a deckbuilding contest called “Must
Have Theme.” In this contest I challenged visitors of MDV to create a
tribal theme deck. The deck had to involvea creature type that I didn’t
have in the Deck Database at the time. Since then, MDV’s deck database
has grown significantly and I can’t really compare these decks to the
Database anymore. However, I thought it would be fun to re-visit this
contest and proclaim a winner.
