MDV Featured Article - Excellence is a Collaborative Effort. - by Luthervamplord - posted 10/19/07 - discuss here

Hello readers, Luthervamplord here. If I may, I want to take a moment to talk to you about one of the greatest achievements on the Internet: The Collaborative Effort that is Magic Deck Vortex (MDV).

Over the last five years, MDV has undergone an amazing amount of change to become the site and forum that we have come to know and love. We’ve moved servers a couple of times, had a few crashes, blew up a few servers, lost some content, had a few mistakes slip through the cracks, and have even managed to make and lose a large number of friends along the way. Yet somehow in this age of constant change, MDV has strived to be a constant figure of hope in the dark.

The dedicated staff members have produced article after article, have run numerous contests, brought up lively debates in the forum and answered many questions from viewers and fellow forum patrons throughout these five years and still attempt to bring more to the table. Of course, all of this is important, but not nearly as important as the work of the most important member of staff MDV has: You.

It is because of you, the reader, that the staff here at MDV have and will continue to bring you the fresh material that we do; the contests that we hope entertain and intrigue you, the visual spoilers, deck lists and pointers we hope have in some small way increased your enjoyment of the great game that binds us all here. Because without you, there would be no MDV – there would be no need for it.

Now first off, all of us here want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The validation that comes from knowing that just one person reads our article and enjoyed it is beyond compare. And now we want to take this further, we want to bring you more material of an ever-increasing quality. But to do this, we need your help.

Whilst I can’t always promise you that change is good, I can promise you that we here at MDV are dedicated to keeping you, the reader, happy with the service that we provide. It’s because of your dedication that we are able to give it our all.

Of course, we also want to increase our own profile, and the best way to do that is to bring in more readers; that’s where you come in. We need your input; what works, what doesn’t? What do you want to see more or less of? Is there something that you feel we could be doing better? Is there something missing from this site? These are all questions that you, the reader, are in the best position to answer.

Over the past two weeks, the new head of the writing staff, Tynion, has been striving to motivate and focus us into a force that can deliver upon this promise, and we feel that we are all now ready to take the first steps towards this goal.

Being motivated and having a game plan is a great place to start, but we cannot do this alone. We need you to help us. Whilst it is important that the writers continue to produce articles and contests, they need the readers to keep up their side of relationship by contributing to MDV.

We’re not asking you to sign up to the staff, all we’re asking is that you continue to read our articles, take part in the contests that interest you, consider joining the MDV forum and get involved in the conversations going on there. Finally, if you feel that we’re doing a good job at what we do, we’d really appreciate it if you let people know, as it is our goal is to become the #1 Fan Favorite Site on the web.

The single, most important bit of support you can offer us is your feedback. If you guys do not let us know what you liked, and what you didn’t like; what you enjoyed reading, and what you didn’t read; what you found to be offensive, or found to be enlightening; or what helped improve your game, taught you something you didn’t know, or just kept you entertained for 30 minutes; then we don’t know what to continue developing or what areas to leave alone to make the reading experience better for you.

All comments, good or bad, help this site move forward. After all, if an article is released and receives no feedback, we can only assume that it was non-descript or reasonable, but we have no way of knowing what we need to change.

Every single member of the writer staff is a volunteer; they give up their free time – sometimes a lot of their free time – to bring you something to read and enjoy. Please let them know how well they’re doing at this or where they can improve.

Feedback is all we are asking for, so we can continue to satisfy your wants and needs as readers.

On behalf of all the writing staff and moderators here at MDV, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and also to thank you for your continuing support of MDV.

~Luthervamplord~
