MDV Featured Article - Mechanic Week: An Interview with a Poison Counter. - by AlasterEisaroh - posted 4/23/09 - discuss here

Hello everyone I'm your host AlasterEisaroh, and we have a very special guest today on the premier edition of An Interview With. Our guest today is something that has been around for a long time, and yet isn't that well know. So without further ado our special guest is....

...

...

Where the heck is the drum roll?

*Drum roll plays*

That's better.

It's Poison Counter!

*Cricket sounds*

Oh come on! It's my first time doing this!

Ah forget it.

AE: So Poison counter you've had a somewhat uneventful life haven't you?

PC:....

AE: Ok no comment, um moving on. So Poison Counter you can work in a number of different ways. Would you mind telling our viewers how it is that you work?

PC:....

AE: Um ok... Well I'll tell the audience for you.

*Turns to audience*

AE: So as you can see Poison Counters can be put on a player in three different ways. With one you have to deal combat damage. Another one only cares if damage was dealt not how it was dealt. Finally the last one needs the creature to be unblocked. So do you have anything to say on this Poison Counter?

PC:....

AE: That's it! Who is the wise guy that booked a guest that can't talk. I'm going to find out and kick their...

*Beep*

We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please Standby.

AE: We're back, and welcome too!

AE: So here we are with our guest Marsh Viper.

AE: So Marsh Viper. Can you tell us a bit about your type of Poison?

MV: Yessss, I can. You Ssssee I only have to deal damage to a player to give out Poisssson Counterssss. In fact I believe I have a deck lisssst I can sssshow you.

AE: Wow that is pretty sneaky of you to get the Poison Counters on the opponent with cards like Fire Whip, and Arcane Teachings. Plus if you really need too you can ping the opponents creatures away too, overall it seems like a really nice deck. So would you say that your form of Poison is the best then?

MV: Yessss I would. Unlike the otherssss who need to attack to Poisssson the opponent. I only need to deal damage.

AE: you said that already.

MV: Don't cut me off while I'm sssspeaking!

AE: I'm sorry.

MV: Ssssee you jusssst did it again. If you don't sssstop I'll have to bite you.

AE:...

MV: I'm finisssshed now.

AE: Oh ok. Well what to you think about the one card that directly removes Poison Counters?

MV: Are you talking about Leechessss?

AE: Yes.

MV: Leechessss is a jerk. Alwayssss undoing all my hard work. It jusssst makessss me sssso mad. It makessss me want to sssstrike ssssomething.

*Marsh Viper bites AE*

AE: Ow! What was that for?

MV: I told you I needed to sssstrike ssssomething.

AE: Well you need to leave now. I think you Poisoned me.

MV: No you only have 2 Poisssson Counterssss right now.

AE: Just leave.

*Marsh Viper leaves*

AE: So since we still have some time we are going to bring in another guest.

AE: Welcome Virulent Sliver, it's nice to have you here.

VS: Thank you AE, it's nice to be here.

AE: So you, and you alone are responsible the only Tournament victory that Poison has ever had.

VS: This is true, but it wasn't just me I had some help.

AE: Oh what do you mean.?

VS: I'll show you.

*Virulent Sliver calls out to the back. Two more Virulent Slivers come out from the back*

VS: See, I had help from my brothers.

AE: I can see that. So what do you say we take a look at the decks that won that tournament.

VS: That sounds like a good idea.

AE: Wow they really used you... and your other family members to great effect. I mean they used the various Sliver effects, such as Virulent Sliver, Two-Headed Sliver, and Shadow Sliver to cheat out on damage in a Two Headed Giant game using Poison to get the win. Plus, with some of the other Slivers in the deck such as Sinew Sliver and Screeching Sliver, you can also eat away at the life totals, or just mill them out. Quite clever if you ask me.

VS: I know, it was quite clever of me to be drafted in that way.

AE: Wait, you? It was their idea to draft that strategy.

VS: Who do you think told them that strategy?

AE: I don't know, who?

VS: I told them to do it.

AE: Ok, this is going nowhere. How about we talk about the Unblocked Poisoners?

VS: The Unblocked Poisoners! How dare you! This is my time right now, and you want to talk about the worst form of Poison. That's it, let's get him brothers.

*All three Virulent Slivers sting AE*

AE: OW! Oh great, I'm up to five Poison Counters now.

VS: Nope my effect stack, so we just gave you 3 Poison Counters each.

AE: Oh s...

*AE falls to the ground dead*

VS: Well everyone, that's our show for the day thanks for watching, and remember to fear the Poison Counter.

So as we saw today Poison is a viable strategy, so try it out next time you feel like trying out something new. Just remember don't make Slivers angry, they can be quite brutal.
