Deck-builder's toolkit

http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazin...ily/arcana/312
Do you have friends? And are you tired of them always complaining because they don't have enough cards to compete with you at the kitchen table? Alternatively, are you just starting out in Magic? Do you worry that you don't have enough cards to start building decks?

Starting May 21, 2010, you can hook up a friend (or yourself!) with the Deck Builder's Toolkit, which will contain 100 land cards and 125 semi-random game cards, along with four 15-card booster packs from a variety of recent Magic: The Gathering sets for only $19.99. It's the perfect way to start a deck-building career!

The Deck Builder's Toolkit will also contain a card storage box, a guide containing dueling tips, and expert advice on how to custom build the deadliest and most effective decks possible. And since no two Toolkits are the same, each one presents its own unique deckbuilding challenges!

discuss. for the price you basically get 4 random boosters at store price, 20 of each basic land, and a 125 semirandom cards. i like this because it will teach players how to build a deck, though.

Re: Deck-builder's toolkit

Interesting concept.
I guess I'll look at what those 125 semi-random cards will be to judge the idea behind this pack.
Might it be a move from WotC to sell old stockpiles of cards that otherwise they wouldn't sell?

Stockpiles of cards that won't sell, that sounds a lot like Fallen Empires to me.

This is one of the best decisions I think they have ever made, this will sell, I just know it and I will be sure to get one for myself.

Random-game cards is such a sketchy type of wording. Are those pro player cards game cards? Basic lands? Tokens? Tip cards? Power 9?

Can't be. This is for new players, and making a good deck with FE cards is expert level.

If we're guaranteed to see among these "semi-random" cards staples like Cancel (yuck), Naturalize, Lightning Bolt, Oblivion Ring and whatnot, I'd happily buy one or two of these kits

I'm getting very sick of, every time we see a cool creature - or any card, so many people just go "But it dies to (random kill card X). Yes, there are answers to it. But you know what? There are answers to those answers. That's the beauty of the game. Look at a card based on its own merits, don't just think "Terror, next" or "Naturalize, next" or "Cancel, next". Cause if you think that way, then every card sucks. The game sucks. Even those answers you just listed SUCK.

GET OVER IT.

That is all.

Man, wish this was around when I started. It took me forever to get enough basic lands to make a monocolored deck. Lots of 4th and Ice Age starter packs.

Well, you get to pick which set these cards are from, so I will probably blow what little money I have to spend on Magic (roughly 30 cents per paycheck, lol) on this!

Re: Deck-builder's toolkit

First of all, will the cards outside the booster packs contain rares?

Second, what if one gets cards like Kami of the Waning Moon alongside cards like Frogmite? How is one supposed to build a deck that way?

Third, for the price of four boosters, you get four booster plus all that?! Where was this when I was starting out?
