Haakon's Contingency Plan
Stromgald Crusader and Black Knight hold the fort until I can get Haakon set up through Buried Alive or self-discard. I'm currently testing the Horror to act as a "Squee" to provide Zombie Infestation with additional discard fodder or as a secondary finisher if need be. Cards that I'm currently considering: Ashen Ghoul-Would give the deck another beater and isn't that hard to set up with Buried Alive. Contamination-More of a sideboard option, but is quite viable since my meta is R/G/W heavy. Delirium Skeins-I would run more Haakon if I decide to main this. Putrid Raptor-I would have to implement more zombies, but that's not so hard to do here. I'm open for suggestions. Before anyone suggests them, I don't own any Stillmoon Cavalier or Mercenary Knight. So don't suggest them or you're buying me a some copies. |

. Skulking Knight is not that good really (i'd rather play Fallen Askari or Knight of Stromgald). In my own build I play with Vampire Hounds as a discard outlet and fierce beater to boot (I use more Horrors and actual Squees, so it gets rather large real fast)

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
After some playtesting, here's version 2.
Yes, I caved-in and bought a playset of Cavalier. He's just that good. |

Why did you cut Buried Alive?

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
Buried Alive wasn't fast enough. I want to get Haakon online by at least turn three. Playing this deck made me realize that self-discard is one of the better and reliable ways to get Haakon into the graveyard.
A friend of mine suggests that I run four Haakon so that I can draw into him more consistently. This seems fairly reasonable, but I'll have to test it out first. |

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
I always thought that Ashes of the Fallen was pretty funny with Haakon.

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
Fourth Haakon didn't work out so well. I did learn that 22 lands is enough land for Smallpox to work properly without screwing me over.
I've got a small change to make as well. -1 Swamp +1 Rotting Rats |

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
What about Anvil of Bogardan? It lets you discard every turn, and has a CMC of 2.

Re: Haakon's Contingency Plan
Here's the updated list.
I'm currently debating between Carrion Feeder and Rusalka for the 1cc creature slot. |
