Good ol' common only decks. It's been awhile since I played with a deck that was made up of commons only. Most my decks are mainly commons with a few uncommons.

I liked this article, I hope you show off other decktypes and go a bit more into MTGO Pauper Meta... or what not... good article.

Beautiful article, DBB. Your argument for Pauper MTGO actually makes me rethink my stance on MTGO and actually play it...

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

MTGO is a great place to play Pauper. I've been playing in these tournaments and just with random people for the past few weeks, and I've probably had the most fun playing Magic this past few weeks than I have in the last 2 years.

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

true but somethikes playing magic in real life is far morefun. all in all it was a good article, but i didnt like that you pushed people to go and pay for MTGO than the actual magic cards. it makes people feel like magic online is far better, when its not. this isnt meant to be anything more than just a comment mind you.

You're making me want to get an account on MTGO.

Cheap formats intrigue me, but I've generally stayed away from them for lack of a player base. It's good to know that something like this exists on MTGO.

Well, like I said in my article, you are more than welcome to play Pauper Magic on MWS or on the tabletop at home, but there isn't a devoted playerbase that's going to respect your Pauperness. And maybe that's what you want, or you think is the cost of not being on MTGO. Whatever the case may be, MTGO is a good place to play Pauper Magic because there is a large playerbase. I may not be a fan of the client sometimes, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather play with 4 other people in a night in a free tournament than by myself.

You're always welcome to try the format out and see what you think. I suppose I could loan you some cards

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

Sorry for raising this thread from the dead but I've just returned to Magic after a 3 year hiatus. I read your article and immediately threw together a couple of you pauper decks and hit the casual play room online. Thank you for rekindling my love of the game.

Please keep this series going. Thanks again.

There are more pauper decks on the way, especially now since Morningtide is out, and the writer's strike is over. Hope to see your comments then.

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

^^ Thats great news, I'm horrible at deck construction and rely on what I can find on the net to play. It also helps to have someone beat you up in the casual play room.

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

Pauper is indeed interesting, I liked your orzhov blink deck the most.

I really think this is one of the alternate formats I can get around, and need to try sometime.

This article inspired me a little that when I find some free time not giving feedback or doing one of the other many things to make a pauper deck! Soon I hope, soon.

Enjoyable read, I didn't see anything wrong with it, content and length were in good ratio.

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

Hellbent has shown some power in "commonkill" format. What makes it different from pauper is that it is not online, and therefore, granting access to even more cards. Because of Gorilla Shaman and Shattering Pulse, affinity has lost some power even though it's still really good. THE ONLY card banned in the format is Mana Crypt due to money issues. Gathan Raiders is really good in monored burn IMO. With hellbent, it comes out of bolt/ghastly demise range, and therefore, it is still so big that it makes the opponent suffer under virtual card disadvantage. Since pauper/commonkill is creature dominated, burn with a few creatures is really good. Burn cannot be hated as much in pauper as it can be in Legacy, so I play the following decklist (this one is without Raiders, the one with raiders is still super secret tech ):

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
4 Rift Bolt
4 Flame Rift
4 Fireblast
4 Incinerate
3 Lava Spike
4 Keldon Marauders
3 Spark Elemental
2 Mogg Fanatic
4 Shard Volley
20 Mountain

Shard Volley's still being tested...

Discuss.

Re: Pauper Chronicles: A Pauper Primer.

So Crimson Acolyte, Prismatic Strands, COP:Red, ROP: Red, Faith's Fetters and Aven Riftwatcher aren't enough hate for ya?. Anyway, this is not a thread for deck discussion, so if you want to get some pointers on your burn deck, ask around on the Casual forum.

DEAL WITH IT.

I'm getting very sick of, every time we see a cool creature - or any card, so many people just go "But it dies to (random kill card X). Yes, there are answers to it. But you know what? There are answers to those answers. That's the beauty of the game. Look at a card based on its own merits, don't just think "Terror, next" or "Naturalize, next" or "Cancel, next". Cause if you think that way, then every card sucks. The game sucks. Even those answers you just listed SUCK.

GET OVER IT.

That is all.
