Nice article, but I still don't like slivers. In my opinion they are designed for people who have no imagination and can't make a deck out of "real" cards.

Afterall, why bother with making something competitive and new, when you can just pick slivers that all do something and then just keep dropping creatures. With Crystalline Sliver, the kind of irritation, you're almost immune to your opponent as you amass your obnoxious army.

Lucky for the rest of us, there's plenty of sliver hate in existence. I covet my Extinction, Earthquakes, and Engineered Plague.

Thanks for the support.

Let's just be clear - I'm not proposing Slivers as the Final Solution for deck building. I've just said "hey, look, this is fun and it reminds me of something I did before."

It's just a fun casual article, rather than a tournament deck-building idea.

Also, with Crystalline Sliver in play, I hold back my Counterspell for your Engineered Plague.

With the addition of Gemhide Sliver to the hive, I think minor sliver themes are splash-able. Slivers don't need to be a powerhouse theme, I've built decks using as little as 9 slivers, surgically grafted to a larger theme. I want to rely on more than a snake and a mosquito for my next poison counter deck, but I haven't tried the sliver angle yet.

Hi, Old Fogey, thanks for posting! I wrote this article a long time ago - actually, it was my first article here on MDV. To be honest, I haven't played a lot of Sliver-based decks since but it was a fun experiment at the time. We had a bit of a contest and some people submitted various Sliver-based decks and I actually tested them all out...that was enough for a good while. In any event, I hope you enjoyed the article.

Cheers.
