Tynion -- I share your view on casual sideboards. I, for one, have NEVER built a sideboard for any one of my casual decks. If that deck doesn't work, I just pick a different one... of course I am the guy with 20-60 decks built at any given time.

I always had two Casual and around six competetive decks. I also kept with me a box of about 40 good/decent cards of appropriate colors in case I wanted to change my casual decks on the fly.

Very nice article, only the title shyed my away from reading it at first. But a nice one, anyway.

Re: Shifting Lineaments: Casual Metagaming (Pt. 2). by Tynion

Sorry I missed this one being posted! I had a rough couple of days right when this would have been front-paged and missed it completely. (Did a 2-hour presentation for a 2-3 million dollar deal and came home to find my car had been stolen!)

Anyway, not sure who mentioned generalization but it is haunting my every thought these days. I've scrapped most of my decks and starting over, rebuilding with the generalized view of casual metagame in mind. How does this deck deal with "No Holds Barred" Aggro? Good. Can it break up a combo? Great, what about pure control? Ugh.

Actually, the difficulty of playing against control makes me want to play control all the more. But in general, building a 60-card deck with "sideboard options" maindecked is challenging and does limit some strategies, but is a rewarding pursuit.

Great article. I enjoyed it very much. Still not sure I'd maindeck CoP: Black (I think I'd rather buy a playset of Story Circles) but your point is well-taken.
