Re: The Apprentice Magician, Part Four. - by Amadeus

I am offended that three people have posted before me, well two Streetz doesn't count, being the publisher.

Well I can at least do this....

It was pretty in-depth in the different types of card-advantage. In the middle of the article Sam talks and talks and talks, really I felt a tad bit overwhelmed. Since this article is to teach new players, I think a break would help break it up a little.

Other than that, it was a great article, and I will be waiting to read more.

Take that! Posting before Ryuzaki in the General Chat...

still interesting but not as good as the first couple. less story more terminology= less interesting. hope to see it continue on for a good while yet.

@Ryu: i'll post before, after, or around you whenever i feel like.

Very well constructed article Dazboot; it made me reconsider a few things that I assume based upon other sources.

And it made me reconsider (at least temporarily) Dismal Failure as a replacment for Cryptic Command in my UW Faerie Blink Deck :-)

As for the other articles -- good job :-) They are a great material to think about for a novice player like me.

Can't wait for more :-)

Still really enjoying this series. I agree with the others that it was a little heavy on the terminology; but I think that sometimes, when you're learning something new, that's just how it is. I'd rather have this one well-written, easy-to-follow overview of various types of card advantage than a handful of seperate articles ("days" in this story). I'd be fed up with the store owner if each week he just told me about some new slight twist on the idea of card advantage and expected a booster for it.

In short, I think the surplus of terminology is warranted: they both just want to keep moving along.

Luther, don't you mean Amadeus; not Dazboot?

I concur, but I appreciate the compliment (if you actually thought it was me and not just making a name swap) It was a great piece of writing and I would be lucky if I could write something like it.

Re: The Apprentice Magician, Part Four. - by Amadeus

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry I haven't written back much - I'm actually playing these days.

3nd3r - sorry you didn't like it as much. I know it can be a bit dull and I'll definitely try my best to keep the next few more interesting. My approach is definitely to try to get as much theory as I can in and get it as right as I can. But I'll try to keep it as light as I can.

@gma: Be careful. Cryptic Command is strictly better than Dismal Failure. The only downside of Cryptic Command is that it has heavy Blue requirements. But even cast as a Dismiss, Cryptic Command is better than Dismal Failure. The choice makes it a very flexible card and a better inclusion unless you can't generate enough Blue.

Re: The Apprentice Magician, Part Four. - by Amadeus

really liking this series. right towards the end of this one i was thinking," Man, I wish he'd include some decks to show what he means." and there it was. i don't have time to do the homework, but i can't wait to see dave's deck report. i hope you keep including examples, i am a visual learner. it is quite technical, but you seem to be able to bring it back to layman's terms pretty well. keep up the good work. this is helpful to me, as i am not as much of a control player, i have difficulty selecting the right cards when i am playing blue with anything.

Thanks for the feedback, Ham. Does anyone else care to take a stab at the homework?
