Interesting contest. However I feel the need to raise an important technicality: I thought flip cards were strictly for permanents, and split cards strictly for non-permanent cards. If I'm right, that seriously affects the rules. If I'm wrong, please name the permanent split card I'm forgetting about.

A morph/flip card needn't have a "flip ~" line on it, due to the special morph rule you're making.

If you really want split cards, do you like FS stuff like this:
Ouch//Yikes
Instant
Morph.
Destroy all enchantments
------------
Instant
Morph.
Destroy all artifacts

I rather agree with Guest1234. I think that Wizards has avoided (traditional) split creatures in favor of split creatures for good reason: once the split creature is in play, how can you tell which creature it is? I guess you could print one half od the split creature upside down, so that it is effectively a sideways flip......though I guess you could just take the flip format and extend it a little to allow for two mana costs, and don't reference 'flipping'.

Okay, nevermind...I guess it would be feasible to have split creatures...

They wouldn't have much room for a textbox though.

Regardless, I look forwrd to seeing what everyone comes up with for this contest.

This is a completely fictional card you are creating. It will never be made into a Magic The Gathering card. Ignore the rule if it confuses you. Just follow the directions to the best of your ability and if anything doesn't make sense as far as rules go, then go by what you feel the contest wants you to do, not what Wizards wants you to do. Ah, good point, good point. ^_^

Mostly, I was just musing on the idea presented. The article was perfectly clear about the contest; but the idea of a split creature as an actual card is interesting, if complicated. I think that if.....no when (MaRo wouldn't have let a crazy idea like this pass him by) the concept of split creatures came up, the killer was complexity. There is a lot of info on the most basic of creature cards, and to put two on a single piece of cardboard pushes the limits of understandability. Making it/them morph just emphasizes that.

But for the purposes of the MDV world, it makes an interesting thought experiment.

Forgive me, but am I missing something about the dilemma? I mean, wouldn't almost any creature allow you to survive the attack, simply by blocking it? Fault Riders doesn't have any sort of evasion ability.

I will perhaps give you a hint then...

I specified that I had a hand, and I gave you the amount and type of mana I had available.

By the way, it appears I made a mistake in my hand description, as was pointed out. After the draw phase, I have three cards in hand, not 1 + 1 = 2.

I have three cards.

(Remember that I am always your opponent ;P)

BTW: Did anyone else realize that it simply says to survive that attack and nothing else? If that is right:

Opponent: Attack with Creature
Me: Block with Unmorphed Creature
