I like the concept, but a few questions come to mind.
1) will we be keeping track of the points or will there be a system?
2) Will the newsletter show current standings?
and I look froward to the competition.

Good questions - I'll let Chris respond.

Re: What's New at MDV? The MDV Super Series! - by Chris Newton

I'll jump in here, since I've been talking to Tynion and know a lot of what is planned and have helped shaped certain aspects of it.

1) Will we be keeping track of the points or will there be a system?
There will be a leaderboard. It will most likely be done by hand in the contest forum. This does not exclude the posibility of a main site leaderboard page that would be run by an engine similar to DKP - I've been looking at converting it into the MSS automated leaderboard as the way it accumulates points by event is very similar to how we do it. For those not familiar with DKP (Dragon Kill Points) it's a program from Everquest and popularized further by WoW that keeps track of "points" based on participation. Points can then be spent for loot. We just need the point accumulation aspect. It's currently in the process of being installed on an independent web server to ensure it can be used for this.

2) Will the newsletter show current standings?
The intention is yes, however if there are like 200 people with standings it'd be quite feasible that only the top XX would be posted in order to keep it a newsletter and not an MSS full-update.

Cashew is right on with his answers. Thanks Cashew.

@ Skeith: You can either PM me with your email address, or you can email me @ inocote@yahoo.com and leave me a message with your information.

@ Syphon: Life is unfair my friend. The sooner you come to terms with this revelation, the sooner you can move on. Seriously, alot of people can't make cards or decks, but that does not stop them from trying.

We are planning alot of events, and I wanted to have a wide spectrum of contest fronts to be able to participate in. I will eventually stump you guys with deck creation, essays and thesis contests. Are you going to complain about them too? Oh, and you can make cards too

My share of questions:

1) Does one need to be signed up in the Newsletter to know who's got how many points?
2) How abouts them mafia? :B

1) Does one need to be signed up in the Newsletter to know who's got how many points?

No. There will be an alternate depiction of points. The current mode of thinking will be an excell file hidden somewhere. However, Tynion has made it clear to me (or am I making this all up) that there may be a newsletter exclusive contest or extra points available in the newsletter. Non-readers might not be privy to those points/contests as well. This is just an in development contest.

2) How abouts them mafia? :B
Nope, it was looked at very briefly and immediately discarded by both Tynion and myself.
1. It has absolutely nothing to do with Magic.
2. It runs for so long that there would be very few a year, and very few participants.
3. It's impossible to set a schedule for it so it was not included.
4. There is rarely a clear inividual winner making it hard to place.
All those reasons were reasons mafia was not included and not planned to be included.

Re: What's New at MDV? The MDV Super Series! - by Chris Newton

Not to mention that Mafia is so blah. There is no real finality, no real plot, no real purpose to play the game unless you like the game. Finally, it is so un-user friendly that new players will not want to even play it a second time. The point of the MSS is to involve as many people as possible. Mafia is pretty much an exclusive group of the same guys. Some guy that reads the site is not going to be drawn into the MSS because of Mafia like he would Idol or XCB.

Also, I have been working on a scorecard in the MDV Super Series thread in the contest forums. Take a look.

Actually, players don't win, factions do. If mafia wins, all members of that mafia, dead and alive, win. The same applies to town.
The only time a clear individual ever wins is if he's part of a third party. (If he's a Jester, or a Serial Killer, etc.)

I concede on all other points though.
