MDV General Chat: Combo of the Day Discussion.

This thread is reserved for discussing the combo of the day feature on Magic Deck Vortex. Each weekday, a combo from the database is featured. (Or in some cases a brand new combo is featured).

Discuss the combos, the pattern of combos or even my blurb about each combo in this thread.

Please do not post new combos in this thread. If you want to put together a combos that's better or using different cards, you can post it in one the appropriate combo threads or email me with it.

Please be sure to reference which combo(s) you are commenting on.

Besides the obvious Error (you can't get a Darksteel Colossus with Entomb- Reanimate) it's a really sweet combo. Played it myself in a Reanimator Deck once, really kicks ass first turn
It works also nice with a Scion of Ur-Dragon and two Dragon Tyrant in library (or whatever you need there). Less loss of Life and still 12 damage a turn...sweet

Yeah, you can't get Darksteel Colossus into play by using that method. Once you Entomb it, it just goes back into your library.

You CAN get either Akroma into play that way though. Still pretty nasty.

It would be possible to drag out a collosus if you use Yixid Jailer to stop it from going back

No, Jailer won't work in this case

Colossus ability is a replacement ability, so it never hits the graveyard in the first place.

The only thing you get Colossus to stay in the grave is to have it in play, while he doesn't have that ability (can't remeber the cards names, but there are some, that cause creatures to lose all abilites...humility for example, but also others and newer one). So that, when he dies, he doesn't have the replacement ability and is not shuffled into the library. but jailer doesn't work here.

I believe you should move the Combo of the Day box to the top of the Recent Articles & Updates "box". Not only would it be more easily seen (I myself missed it the first time), it would also make more sense aestheticaly. As the front page stands, the center column looks like the following:

-recent articles-
-less recent article related stuff-
-combo of the day-
-less recent article related stuff-

It would look better if it looked like this instead:

-recent articles-
-combo of the day-
-less recent article related stuff-
-less recent article related stuff-

So the two aren't separated by something which has nothing to do with either, ala google ads. That's just me, of course. Nonetheless, keep up the good work.

Your suggestion will be reflected in tonight's update, YWN. The reason I put it below the recent updates originally is because I wanted to force people to have to scroll past the recent updates and possibly click on a link they might have missed before.

However, you are correct in terms of better layout.

Hmmm, from a couple of days ago, Mask of the Mimic and False Prophet don't play well together. The problem is that, if you target any creature (it doesn't even matter which one) with Mask of the Mimic, and then you sacrifice False Prophet to pay the additional cost, False Prophet's "remove all creatures from the game" ability will resolve before Mask of the Mimic resolves, so the Mask will no longer have a target, and it will be countered by the rules. On the plus side, you can still at least clear the board of all creatures, even indestructible ones.

Good point, Dratho -- I'll have to fix the wording later. You would have to have two False Prophets in play in order to pull another one from the deck. You are the first person to mention that since that combo was originally posted A LONG TIME ago. Thanks.

Even this won't work, I think - the False Prophet that goes to the graveyard will remove the second one from the game, so Mimic still no longer has a target.

Rites of Spring + Nantuko Cultivator is a pretty crappy combo just to get a mediocre green creature into play. Just play Chameleon Colossus, which is, in my opinion, one of the best green 4 drops ever printed.
