Kulrath Knight is an amazing card; the problem is not with the Knight, but with his support cards. Black's star common is a 3/3 for 5 mana (Cultbrand Cinder), and against more aggressive Green/Red builds and tempo oriented White/Blue builds, Black/Red has a hard time keeping up. The problem is evident in its Duo and its Godhead Aura; both are strictly speaking, the worst of the entire cycle. Of the ten or so drafts I've done, I've drafted Black Red about 4 or 5 times, and I like it as a deck; however, unless you have good removal and are able to constantly make good plays, the deck is not the easiest to win with.

Wither is a powerful mechanic, this is true; however, wither is going to constantly gain board parity or end up making larger creatures smaller. This is good, but most decks have ways to deal with the wither counters. Green/White can heal its creatures, White Blue has Turn to Mist and the UW Witch, Blue Black can fly over the wither, and Green Red has no problem with beating your wither men; Morselhoarder and Loamdragger Giant can take a few -1/-1 counters.

The fact is, wither, on less efficient creatures, is still good, but not not as gamebreaking as you make it seem.

Re: Shadowmoor First Impressions: Drafting. - by Death_By_Beebles

ok i'm not the most experienced drafter and i was talking more from my sealed point of view, but i'm planning to do some sha drafts after my exams are over and i'll see what happens then, but i can understand your reasoning DBB without some removal to back it up wither can't win u games, unless you play against some stupid/unlucky players but then again almost anything can win against that ofc...

Nice article, but you were missing a powerhouse card you should draft
R/G: Giant Baiting, due to the fact you get a 4 damage to a creature or player of an opponents or two 4 damages coming at them, which if played properly can be a huge advantage, maybe even game winner.

other than that i found you describe our drafting pool in my area to a T.

I didn't specifically mention Giant Baiting in my article, but trust me, I draft it often enough . The thing to realize, however, is that Giantbaiting isn't normally going to be a burn spell to an opponent's head. Especially when life totals are low, Giantbaiting is going to read "Destroy target opponent's worst creature. Conspire." It's going to get chumped.
