Re: Card Spotlight: Spiritmonger - by Drathro

A great and well informed article Dathro !

It's good to read about Spiritmonger I feel it is a bit forgotten, although it is sooooo powerful and very splashable. Maybe because people tend to play G/B in an aggro-control way and, therefore, focus on 2-3 drops rather than on a game-winning 5 drop... Or is it the Korlash, Heir to Blackblade effect ?
(yes, I've seen the beautiful 2008 decklist that one proves me wrong or can we say it is more about board control than than about aggro control ?)

For the cards to play it with, Contested Cliffs, Rancor and Pernicious Deed are definitely my favourite !
And, in that section... for a casual deck design, I'd think about adding Filth... It's just so easy to to give an opponnent Swamps nowadays...

It's a card I want online, but sadly one of the more expensive ones that exist. Expensive enough that even this article didn't convince me to drop the bones on them.

Glad you guys liked it.

Note there is a formatting issue with the quoted submission from "Gregory and Bradley of Wisconsin." It spills over into the main part of the article, but I expect it will be fixed within a day or two.

Thanks for the quick fix, Streetz!

Well, I was looking over the article again, because, apparently, I am that vain. I can't for the life of me figure out why I thought Bloodbond March was a good card suggestion for Spiritmonger. Is the fact that it is Black and Green enough to recommend it? I think not! I guess it must have made sense at the time...

Another well done article. I especially liked how you ended with tips for more ways to take it. Keep up the good work!

I have a playset of them! But no Damnations, no Pernicious Deeds, nothing at all to build a decent Rock deck with it. I tried with Plague Boiler once, but it wasn't a nice experiment.

Only very recently have I found a way to make a deck around him. Though it's more accurate to say the deck was made around Woodlurker Mimic, and the Spiritmonger simply happened to be BG. Details...

Anyway, nice article and stuff.

Spiritmonger.

Nice card mentioned in the article.
I have three of them, one regular japanese one and two grand prix promos.

I played with it and it is quite nice, but dies to too much removal to be really effective.
It's actually quite good in a Greater Good deck.
