Interested in Writing for Magic Deck Vortex?

If you are interested in writing and seeing your unique perspective, opinion and/or writing style on the front page of a Magic Deck Vortex, this thread is a great place to start.

There are a lot of topic holes to fill within the Writers Guild of Magic Deck Vortex including coverage of the spoiler season, alternate formats, storytelling, magic issues, editorials, card critiques, talking about art, tribal, 5-color, pauper, etc, etc.

If you think you have a knack at writing and want to get your opinion out there on something other than a blog, let us know! I would love to see your writings on MDV.

Hamsandwich and myself make up the entrance into the guild. All you have to do is contact one of us and we can provide you with more information about getting into the guild. A great place to start would be posting in this thread and emailing one or both of us a sample of your writing. Or better yet, a full article.

For your review and reference, below a section of the READ ME thread at the top of the Writers Guild (edited a bit):

Quote:
Below you will find endless hints, tips and rules for writing on MDV. Please read all of this, as it will help you get your article posted faster and save me time in publishing your article.

Items within this thread:
1) How to write an article – the basics.
2) Some additional notes.
3) Basic Formatting
4) Grammar and ‘stuff’
5) Style Guide
6) Other information

How to write an article – the basics:

1a) Everyone read the ‘basic formatting’ referenced below...
1b) Know your audience. Before you even start thinking about a topic, you should know that your readers are casual players -- not pro tour players. Also, the majority of your readers are ages 15-24. This is an approximation. Not that it helps much.
2) Choose your topic. Your topic should be informative, interesting and useful. Ask yourself:
What will the reader learn from your article?
Why should the reader care and want to finish reading?
Will the information the reader learns be relevant?
3) Write the article. Write it in whatever program you like but write it in text only. ...Article Length: A full article should be about 1600 to 2200 words (or five pages of single-spaced text in a word processor). This is flexible to some extend. There are opportunities for smaller articles, such as editorials.
4) Spell check...
5) Fact check. Check all of your facts and names....
6) Images. I will do all of the formatting for you and in some cases, add the images where you don’t want me to. However, if you have suggestions on where to put an image, note it in your article like this: [insert pic of Fireball].

[Enclose any recommended images or notes to me in brackets. I will also provide your article banner. If you need to link to an image on the net, do so at the end of your article and make note where in the article that image goes.

7) Reread and check your article again. I always find MILLIONS of errors on the second or third review of an article I write – so I am sure something similar applies to you. Save our editors some time and do this step.
8) Posting it. When you are done with your article, start a new [REVIEW] thread in the REVIEW forum with your article in the first post. Your thread title should look like this: [REVIEW] Proposed Article Title.
*There are several stages an article can be in. They are as follows: [CONCEPT] [REVIEW] [EDIT] [FINAL] [ON HOLD]
9) Publishing. Once your article has reached the final stage , I will publish your article. Publishing typically follows the Schedule for Publishing found...
This thread goes on and on and fills out the items reference in the first section of it. However, this should give you a reasonable idea of what you should think about when submitting an article ot MDV.

I certainly hope to see some of you in the Writers Guild in the future. In the meantime, talk about this freely. If you are interested in writing, post that here. One of us should follow up with you via PM or email.

Re: Interested in Writing for Magic Deck Vortex?

Sliverking here, and I have an interest in writing a few articles, if not more. I can do deck themes like 5 color and tribal, but could probably find something for card critiques, game formats, and others.

Re: Interested in Writing for Magic Deck Vortex?

Hey, I'm interested in writing Magic articles for MDZ, and I think I could have some fun discussing Magic artwork, card layouts, custom card creation, etc. I'm also a fan of tribal and I'm an activate player of Elder Dragon Highlander, if there is any interest in that format.

Hey Streetz,

I would be interested in writing on the site. I have been playing since a little before Ice Age. If you want I can write a sample article for you. Let me know.

Streetz,

I would like to write for this site. I just need to get in contact and see what subject you think would be appropriate for a first attempt.

Streetz,
You bet I am! I love writing and MTG; what else do you need? I'll be pretty good with card discussions or talking about new sets. Can you please send me a PM or something with xtra information?
Greetings,
Vigilance

Re: Interested in Writing for Magic Deck Vortex?

I have an article I'm developing involving 10 land mana bases in MFFA? Can I send it to someone to peruse? I'm fine if it's not article material, as long as I can post it with a Casual deck! (It's already been formatted for a post.)
Thanks!
