Re: Mechanix Podcast #9: Vanishing & Fading

Despite already posting the thread, I must say I enjoyed this podcast.

There is one problem I have -- and this is about every episode. While I can understand the reasons behind it, I still wonder if there's a better way. My problem: Describing each card in detail.

Otherwise, Good job.

Re: Mechanix Podcast #9: Vanishing & Fading

That's been a topic of discussion off and on at MTGCast as well, and I'd really like as much feedback as possible on this.

So far, the general consensus has been that I should detail every card I make a big deal about that's older than Mirrodin. The reasoning is that most players are familiar with cards printed in the last several years up to current. I'm of the opinion that anything not Standard-legal that's not heard often may possibly need to be detailed if it's important to explaining a combo or something similar.

As for going over new cards... that hasn't really been discussed at all. Should the new cards be detailed, or is it better to assume that everyone already knows the cards exist since they likely cracked them in a pack just recently?

This is where the written article format has an edge - one can simply link to a card instead of repeating it verbatim.

Re: Mechanix Podcast #9: Vanishing & Fading

seeing as this was my frist time listing to your podcasts, id have to agree with streetz. the card info was a little long, though i do understand why its there. its just, imo, that mainly older more experianced players would be listing to the cast, thus i believe card names would surfice*.

Thanks for the comments. I'm really starting to lean towards cutting back on the card descriptions. I'm going to see if I can get some discussion of this on the MTGCast forums as well, but it sounds like a good idea.

Wow, so I asked what people think about cutting back on the card details over at MTGCast... and I got the exact opposite response! So far I've had 5 listeners say they like the detail for a couple of reasons.
I'm kind of shocked at the difference of opinion between the two sets of forums, I didn't think there would be such a split.

You could always make one podcast for MDV listeners and one for MTGCast listeners.

I think you're right. The posts at MTGCast say that they don't keep up with the updated wordings and such, so they appreciate me spelling it out. I'm guessing then it would be wise to keep things as is unless I get more people saying otherwise (that means YOU, listeners at MDV).
