Land Theme Week Discussion.

This thread is reserved for the discussion of Land Week, held on MDV from 3/5/07 to 3/11/07. Please keep this thread on topic. What did you like or didn't like? All content from the week can be found in the following link:

This week we will be discussing Lands, making new decks using Lands, posting old decks using Lands, posting more art for the catacombs from land cards, resolving a contest called Thematic Landscaping from January, posting land combos and so forth. What we are doing this week is kind of like what Wizard’s does on www.magicthegathering.com except that it will be MDV’s approach to the concept... you know, with a casual perspective!

Land Week has been in the works for several months. It was originally planned for the end of January but because of the server issues experienced and the transfer to a new dedicated server, it had to be pushed back. I wish I could have still had the week over a month ago, but I am glad I didn’t. What fun would a theme week be if the site was down or completely intermittent?

Anyway, you’ll find some of your favorite article series in this week’s content including:
Raiding the Dollar Bins by Death_By_Beebles
Memories of an Old Magic Player by Chris Newton
Irrational Love by Cashew
The Dungeon of Malefict by Maleficent
Lands: More than Mana by Greyfell (of course!)
Expect to also see some new article series as well.
I don’t want to make this introduction too long, but know that your feedback throughout the week on articles and features is greatly needed and appreciated. Please offer your feedback in the appropriate forum threads or send me an email. We will do more theme weeks in the future but how often we do them depends on how you all respond.

In the meantime, this page will show you what’s going on throughout Land Week. Below is a grid showing the new content for each day with a link to each. When this is all over and done, I hope everyone is fulfilled with Lands. At the very least, I hope this leaves you looking forward to more theme weeks and more features and articles on Magic Deck Vortex in the future.

Ebayed. At a local shop they only had 1 of each of those cards and they wanted around $40 a peice for cards that were in lousy condition.

I hope you didn't buy those Terramorphic Expanses with the hopes of getting those sparkly new duals you bought...

No, Terramorphic Expanse is only for getting basic land into play. My main deck (which uses RED and White) always has issues of getting either too much Plains or to many Mountains. I hope to mitigate this by using 4 Plateau's, 4 Sacred Foundrys, 4 Boros Garissons, 4 plains and 4 mountains. The Terramorphic Expanses might replace the Boros Garissons

Plateau
Sacred Foundry
Boros Garrison
Plains
Mountain
Terramorphic Expanse

Loved the "Land Week" and can't wait for what else you come up with. It was informative and helpful to all people who played.

I like the idea of that! It was more focused and informative, a piece of magic history!

Re: Land Theme Week Discussion.

I also found it informative. While I'm new all-around at deck-engineering, probably the area I'm most in need of improving is knowledge and use of non-basic lands. While it didn't necessarily cause me to drive to any conclusions, it did open up my eyes to some of what's out there, and caused me to look more closely at the non-basics included in some of the MDV decks, etc.

In general, I'm finding this site to be very informative and useful (I'm finding the "One Card to Rule Them All" series to be useful in terms of thought process as well).

I noticed awhile back that there was a link to a webcast about game mechanix. I listened to the Vanishing and Fading one, which wasn't too bad. I was wondering whether it would make sense to perhaps have an article series on game mechanics, describing a different mechanic each week. I think it's useful to have someone walk through the mechanic and discuss some different ways in which it could be used.

As for the theme weeks, they fit in well with the overall purpose of MDV. As was mentioned, creature types might be fun or even a tribal week, discussing a bunch of different creature types across a number of articles. Or a week discussing decks that don't use creatures, or those that rely on enchantments for the win condition...

Cheers,
Amadeus

Re: Land Theme Week Discussion.

Woah, he is learning deck building from Streetz.... *looks worried*

This was actually our third Theme Week. Which brings to mind an interesting thought, perhaps Streetz could do an archive for past Theme Weeks? Just add that to your list Streetz
